The most beautiful cave in Wisconsin and the upper Midwest, Cave of the Mounds lies just off U.S. Highways 18/151 in Blue Mounds, WI. The United States Department of the Interior and the National Park Service designated Cave of the Mounds a National Natural Landmark because the site possesses "exceptional value as an illustration of the nation's natural heritage and contributes to a better understanding of man's environment". Curious tourists and budding cave enthusiasts have been enjoying an introduction to caving in the midwest for years while visiting Cave of the Mounds. Commonly referred to as the "jewel box" of America's major caves for the variety and delicacy of its formations, Cave of the Mounds is recognized by the Chicago Academy of Sciences as "the significant cave of the upper Midwest".

$18.00 for an hour or so tour. I like caves but I have seen better than this one. The tour guide was not very knowledgeable. It is probably a better experience for children.

We took a tour with 4 adults and a 3, 4, and 5 year old. It was a great experience. Our tour guide was great. Then we bought the bags so the kids could go outside and filter water through their sand to find their gems. They loved it. So did I. Brought back memories from my childhood.

This is not a large cave, but it is beautiful. You also are up close and personal within the cave walls. Our guide was very informative, our group small, and this made for a very good tour. This place is easy to get to from RTE 151, so stop for a visit. You do need to be able to walk... More

Never knew Wisconsin had any caves, and how amazing and lucky for all of us how they found it, by accident !!! It is amazing what time, minerals and water can do to rock, worth the $20 to see!! Nice area for the kids to pan for gold and dig for gems and precious stones!!

This is a nice stop. Obviously the reason to stop is the cave tour, which after the introductory movie is actually about 45 minutes. The first quarter of the cave is fairly unexciting, and i was worried the tour was a mistake, but things really opened up and some very pretty formations were the norm for the rest of the... More

One of the better cave tours I have been on. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and was able to answer all questions asked by our group. The cave itself looked very well maintained and well lit. There are some areas that are very closed in, so if you have Claustrophobia, you might want to skip this. We had a... More

The Cave of the Mounds Experience was a unique and fascinating experience. The tour is very in depth and informative. Not for people who have small children, very tall persons or just bad joints. It is both cool and damp in the cave because it is a living thing. Wear good thick soled gym shoes. my feet got really cold... More

We had a great time at the Cave of the Mounds. The docent was young, but well versed in the history of the cave system. The tour is paced well and the temps underground are quite nice int he heat of the summer. We really enjoyed our visit. Bring a sweater and your camera.
