This is a really nice bike ride. The trail goes through three tunnels. You need a flashlight. We dropped our car off in Elroy and got a shuttle to Sparta, then biked the 32.5 miles back to Elroy. There is several towns along the trail to get something to eat or drink or get ice cream.

Slow going for a bike tour on road bikes but the tunnels were fun. After the 3rd tunnel we went over to the road for the rest of the way to Sparta, plenty of shoulder and just as scenic, much faster.

We started in kendall at the "Depot". We paid $20.00 to have a guide (friends of elroy sparta trail president "Dave") drive us to tunnel 3 and drop us off. He takes your own car and then parks it back at the depot so it is waiting for you. He gave us some history about the trails during the drive.... More

Very COOL! And not just the chilly tunnels! In spite of the rain earlier in the day, there were only a couple of soft spots in the limestone. Kelly at the Kendall Park House was MOST gracious and helpful. Totally pleasant experience and encounters with fellow cyclists along the way. Wonderful to be immersed in the farming and rural landscapes!... More

This bike trail was amazing! We started in Sparta at the Chamber Office/Depot. They have a list of Chamber volunteers who will shuttle you to where you'd like to start your trip - have two sets of car keys with you - the volunteer comes to the depot and rides with you to your destination and takes your vehicle back... We traveled from Colorado specifically to ride this trail, and it was worth it. It could have been the weather, the gentle grades, the tunnels, the beautiful green scenery, the friendly people along the way, but the combination yielded an unforgettable experience. I ran into at least three other couples who came here for a visit because of the trail.... More

I have wanted to ride the Elroy -Sparta Trail for years and finally got the opportunity! It didn't disappoint me at all. It is a very scenic trail, mostly wooded, and the tunnels were amazing!!!

Biked from Sparta to Norwalk and back. Started at the DNR walkin campsite parking lot south of I90 in Sparta to save ourselves a couple of miles. My odometer said 23.5 miles upon return. 1.5 of that was walking through tunnel 3. Very pretty ride. Nicely maintained trail. Tunnel was interesting, if a bit long. It's a 3% grade uphill... More
