About
A very special attraction is Langenbaker House, a teamster's cottage that was one of the first homes in Ilfracombe. What makes it totally fascinating is that the home was owned by one family for a century and inside hardly a stick of furniture has been moved since 1920. It was one of the first homes in Ilfracombe and was the residence of Harry and Mary-Ann Langenbaker and their 11 children.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Unfortunately, this attraction is currently closed. The main tour guide is not conducting tours and the council has closed off this attraction.

The place on the outside looked interesting but there was no entry to the place which was disappointing. I was a surprised by the lack of information about the place.

Whilst an interesting story behind it, there isn't much to see as you can only view from the outside.

Lets see, apparently it's "looked after" by local volunteers, though I'm not sure what it is they apparently do to look after it, as the grass is all overgrown, the yard a mess. You can't enter the yard at all, so you pull up, read the sign, take a pic of an old house with a shocking unkept yard and bam you're done. It'd be nice if they could somehow get some funds to put in a pathway, or at least mow in a pathway around the house, so people could walk around the entire thing. Gardens couldn't hurt either. If it's going to be an attraction...then make it one. I wouldn't advise people to go out of their way to see it, but if you're passing through town feel free to detour around the block. The story about the house and the fact they had 11 kids in there was cool. I didn't take any pics because what you see on this review is it.

Having read some history of Langenbaker House I was looking forward to visiting the property when in Ilfracombe. Alas, it was not to be, this 'tourist attraction' is locked up, danger signage in front of the building, the entire property and surrounds unkempt and the house looking as if it should be demolished. Such a shame as the house dates to 1899 on its present site and is heritage-listed since November 2001. The house was purchased by the Shire in 1991 for conservation as a monument to the ordinary men and women of the outback. As a conservationist, it has failed dismally.

This historic house was transported by bullock train over a 100 years ago. The Landenbaker family raised 11 children here and it remains in the same condition after the last family lived there.

Kathy, the owner at the caravan park conducts the tours. The history behind this home is incredible. The home has been left as it was the day he died. This is not just a history of the home, but the family, the town, the region and QLD.
Everyone on our tour loved it.

This tour was well worth the $7.00 each. The caravan park owner conducts the tours and her lovely down to earth nature and obvious affection for the Langenbaker family make it extra special. Was really interesting to see and hear about how they lived.
