Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Wonderful museum! Filled with all sorts of treasures and fun facts. Very friendly staff! No admission charge but they do take donations to keep this gem going.

Historic 2-story building with full basement - all broken up into many rooms (probably about 15 all told) with loads and loads of exhibits on local history. The staff was friendly and informative. The exhibits were very well organized with each room having a separate theme. One notable thing was the volunteers working at looms to make carpets and place mats. We bought one; excellent quality - hand-made the way it was done before mass production. Admission is free; we left a donatiion. We spent about 90 minutes here seeing the various way life was starting in 1880 and through to almost 1980. The museum is only open from 10:00 A - 2:00 P on MWF and Saturday. Plan accordingly. The top floor boasts an old courthouse. The basement carries a lot of equipment from 100 years ago. Lots to see.

There is a lot to see here. Great history of the area. Well worth a stop. Rooms are decorated with antiques. There is a room that represents local veterans too.

Oh my gosh we had an amazing time in this museum! They only have volunteers, and they also weave some beautiful rugs, placemats, etc and have them for sale. It’s free, but they ask for free will donations. I learned a lot as well; they have a lot of explanations and trivia around the items. If you’re ever in Hurley I would definitely suggest a stop!

Have been to Hurley many times, but never visited the museum. Decided to check it out and was pleasantly surprised. The staff was friendly and informative. The exhibits were very well organized and included many interesting items. I was particularly impressed with the third floor courtroom and the Jewish exhibit. Never realized Hurley had a sizeable Jewish population, including a Temple. One other surprise was the volunteers working at looms to make rage carpets and place mats. The museum sells them to help raise money for museum expenses. Admission is free, but donations are appreciated.

Hurley and surrounding areas are beautiful and full of interesting history. This museum has so many interesting tidbits, clothes, pictures, stories that it would take hours to see everything. The volunteers are dedicated and can help give the story on many of the items on display. The Weaving Room is extra special, the rugs are amazingly hand-constructed and well worth the price. Looks like they will last forever. It is an old building so will be difficult if you have trouble walking.

Great way to spend a couple hours. Based in a huge old retired courthouse, filled with theme rooms of articles from the areas past. Had our own tour guide, a very friendly volunteer who had her favorite areas she walked us through. The highlight for your wife will be the weaving room. Volunteers generate funds for the museum through the creation of handmade rugs on four very large looms. Take your coat, most of the building is unheated! Hours are limited, check before you go. 10-2, a few days a week.

This is a real gem for Iron County! Well worth taking the time to learn about the "North Woods Culture". My ancestor's are from here and I found lots more about them. Especially loved the Hurley High School yearbooks from the 1920's, found both my mom and an Uncle in there!
