The house was built on the river. We had an excellent tour guide. A good example of how people lived in the Midwest after the Civil War. Highly recommend a visit.

A wonderful tour by a passionate guide in costume. The house is beautiful and the original furniture (complete with photos) are on display. The family that built this and lived here were highlighted.

We visited for an afternoon tour. I would have given it five stars but the next day we visited Taliesin, and this place just couldn’t compete! However, it is a beautiful Victorian house with impressive grounds. The signage was lacking from inside the town and...More

While tours are on the hour, you apparently have to get there much earlier than that to get a tour because of the small groups that take.

The tour is about an hour, I believe. Then you will want some time for the grounds and gift shop. Total? About 2- hours. If you are going now, call ahead for late-winter/spring conditions.
