Unique and beautiful place to spend time. I love going in the morning with a hot cup of coffee. It is so peaceful at that time in the morning.

This is a wonderful beach stop on the island! We were biking and this was a nice stop. The water is so clear and there are cool, round, smooth rocks that are the beach. There is no sand here, just the rocks. There are signs posted that you are not allowed to take any of the rocks. Worth a stop!

We were on the island doing some family history and decided to visit and see the one thing in the island that everyone talks about. Needless to say, the views didn't disappoint. We spent a little time watching the waves, read the historical signs, and even walked around the cemetery. I can see how this would be a nice place... More

If you go to Washington Island, you need to visit this beach. Don't expect a sandy beach, but you will see some of the smoothest stones on the planet (just don't take them)! This another quirky charm to Washington Island. The only drawback is that dogs aren't allowed on the beach.

Really special (geologically unique) large-size rock beach -- note: no sand, no dunes -- worth reading up a bit before/after, since it's interesting. Bring chairs, thick blankets or thermarests -- or spend your time building rock structures. For action/activity seekers, there's nothing "to do" here -- other than enjoy nature, summer and catch up on your reading. We had such... More

Schoolhouse Beach is one of the things that make Washington Island unique. A marvelous place to swim on a hot summer day - Caribbean-clear water, deep immediately, fun swimming raft, cool view over to far away the UP shore. The distinctive feature is, of course, the smooth, ivory-white limestone stones that compose the beach. People constantly skip and throw them... More

We first experienced this beach in 1996 on our 10th anniversary. It has always fascinated us. We go in the off season and spend an hour just experiencing the unique stones, quiet view and the way the water interacts with the stones. The park is rustic. To some it might feel haphazard. But it is charming and jumbled and, like... More

I have never seen a beach with just limestone rocks. No sand. Amazing. The crew at the ferry station told us there are only four beaches that have rocks. She said the whole island is limestone. Also very nicely maintained and cool under the pines along the beach area.

The rocks that make up this beach are so smooth. The water is so clear. I especially enjoyed the sound the rocks made as they tumbled back into the water after a wave hit them. The Cherry Train stops here.
