If you are heading to Mt. Rushmore from the west, get off I-90 and take Route 16 into the Black Hills. You will be rewarded with a sudden and dramatic change In scenery. And it will actually save you time.

Either way is beautiful. If you are driving a motor home I think they say that the route from Buffalo is better but in a car either is fine. Sheridan is a bigger town so if you need a Walmart or big grocery store stop you... More

It's the intersection of Highway 16 and County Road 33. I believe there is a sign "Crazy Woman Canyon." Very easy to find. Google "crazy woman canyon road" to see a map.

Yes it can be done but there are quite a few steep grades so make sure you get your brakes checked and know how to down shift so you dont heat up your brakes.....take it slow and enjoy the beautiful scenery....its gorgeous... More
