Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Great small town museum with a large museum collection of information about Native Americans, white settlers, and a stunning display of sculptures by J. Michael Thomas. The downtown area of Buffalo has several pieces of Thomas's art work on display along it's walking tour. This is a museum you won't want to miss as you travel from Mt Rushmore, Deadwood area up to Devil's Tower and Little Bighorn.

Dedicated to a long time Buffalo resident and his extensive collection, the Gatchell provides a deep look into the history of the region including Native American history, White Settlers, Soldiers and local conflicts, geologic history, and outlaws, including the Johnson County range war. A wide collection well presented with friendly staff. A must see in town.

This small, local museum holds a collection of mostly local artifacts and photographs. It is very interesting but because it is based on the collection of one man it is somewhat limited in its scope. The building itself is the old Carnegie library and is the basis for Sherrif Longmire's office in the Longmire book series. The staff is very knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. We spent about an hour there.

Located almost next door to The Occidential Hotel, this museum showcases the collection of one man who took the time to preserve the past.

Over the years it has expanded and now houses much more.

Spent an hour or two, it will certainly be worth it.

Enjoyed the walk through history. Well worth the stop while you are in town. A Longmire exhibit drew me in.

Small museum on Main St of Buffalo, WY. Admission $7 adults, $5 seniors, military, teens, $3children over age 3. This museum preserves the collection of Jim Gatchell who had a pharmacy in town. Many artifacts are of Native American origin gifted to Mr. Gatchell. There is a nice gun collection, geology collection and photos that give a general history of the area. It was interesting to learn of the Basque people that settled in the area and how they were sheep ranchers. The museum is laid out well and has some interactive exhibits. The gift shop is nice, staff is friendly. We spent about an hour and a half here.

This is such a fantastic museum. So much information to take in and learn about the local history. We visited when they had Longmire exhibit. I’m a fan of the tv show now have read the books. The staff was wonderful. We had a kittle dog with us and they let him in museum. The gift shop is amazing. So many wonderful books to buy. And I absolutely love my Buffalo homie I purchased, such a good price on it.
