Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Everyone says this is THE place to get the iconic photo of Mt Moran's reflection in the Snake River. We came on Sunday, 8/30 and unfortunately it was too windy.

The spot is easy enough to get to as you just pull into an overlook parking lot.

Went to Jackson with a large group of good friends. We discovered this place driving through the park and pulled over on the side of the road (realized afterward there is a small turn-out/lot, too). We walked down the small embankment to the water's edge and ended up spending 2 hours just sitting there talking and enjoying the insanely beautiful view. Of the 5 days we spent in Jackson, those 2 hours here are among the most memorable.

We went here twice. Once on a morning after a snow, we saw otters, blue heron & bald eagles. The second time, we went looking for bear 610 only to find sand hill cranes and bear watchers. Still a great place to pause and watch what comes by.

If you are looking for a panoramic of the Tetons.. this will be one to write home about. Try to go in the mid fall timeframe. The colors are stunning and if you are lucky.. a recent snow will have left the mountains with a fresh coat. This is a must.. also good for sunrise.. just be there early because it does get crowded.

We drove the loop road and made multiple stops along the way. The view at Oxbow Bend was so beautiful. We didn't get the reflection the day we went but still enjoyed stopping and seeing the Tetons and Snake River.

Easy stop along the drive around the park. Walk down the the rivers edge for a great view of the Tetons in the distance. Relaxing spot to enjoy the views and simply take it all in.

This is located halfway between Jackson Wy and the southern entrance of Yellowstone. It is of course, one of many places and or ways you can stop to view/appreciate the Teton mountain range. What makes this place unique in viewing the Tetons….. in the morning, when looking east towards the mountains, on a clear day, you can see the reflection of the Tetons in the Snake River.

How long did we stop, 15 minutes.

Traveling from Jackson Hole, Wy to Yellowstone National Park on Highway 89, you will see Oxbow Bend on your left. It lies between Moran Junction and Jackson Hole Junction on Highway 89. The turnout has a safe parking area with an excellent view. No scrambling through the woods is necessary. Mt. Moran is 12,605 feet tall and is the tallest mountain of the three in your view. A large fault runs at the base of the Grand Tetons and earthquakes do erupt adding to the mountain building and lowering the valley. White pelicans stop here on their spring migration. Sandhill cranes, trumpeter swans and bald eagles can be seen frequently. Blue heron nest along cottonwoods that edge Snake River so bring your binoculars, as well as, your camera. Moose can also be seen mostly in the early morning and sunset. While driving up Highway 89 and south of Oxbow Bend the Snake River lookout is also an iconic photo opportunity. You will get a map when you enter the Grand Tetons so check the location of these two lookouts so you do not miss them.

The Snake River Oxbow Bend is a required stop in Grand Teton National Park if you are on a photo expedition to take pictures at all the iconic stops in the park. While taking pictures there any time during the day, the must stop time of the day is at sunrise. And if you can plan ahead the best time is to take pictures in the autumn when the trees in the background have turned to yellows, oranges and reds in the background. The best shots will be in the early morning just as the sun comes up. The air will be still, making the surface of the river a mirror. The reflection will be of Mount Moran and the autumn colors. You need to arrive at the overlook before 5:00 AM in order to claim one of the best tripod locations for your camera. On a good day there will be 200 or 300 photographers positioned along the overlook, ranging from tourists to internationally known professionals. So you must be there early to get a good spot. Scout out the location the day before to determine where you want to be, then get there early the next morning, usually before 5:00 AM. Avoid drinking a lot of coffee because there are no rest rooms at the overlook. Be ready for a three hour stop when arriving to take pictures. Bring a chair, a blanket, gloves and lots of layers of clothing because it will be cold sitting next to the river, waiting for the best light for your picture. If you arrive late, make sure you do not set up in a location between all the other photographers and the Oxbow Bend because you will be yelled at until you get out of the way. People who have been waiting for three hours do not suffer fools lightly and you will be ruining a photo that may be a prize winner and be worth a lot of money to everyone else. Don't be that idiot that gets in the way. Get there early and you will be fine. Plus, if you get there early you can get one of the few parking spaces that are available at the overlook along with a prized tripod location. You will have a lot of fun.
