About
The Pinedale region was at the heart of the Rocky Mountain Fur Trade, which supplied precious beaver pelts to the fashion industries of Europe and the eastern United States. Mountain men like Jim Bridger, Kit Carson, Thomas Fitzpatrick and William Sublette carved their legends here, and opened the way for the pioneers of the Oregon Trail. The Museum of the Mountain Man shares a comprehensive collection of Rocky Mountain fur trade journals, relics such as Jim Bridger’s Rifle and the finest Native American sheephorn bow still in existence. Opened May through October and winter season by appointment.

So much information . This a very high quality museum. There is a huge variety of exhibits and excellent narratives. If you are at all interested in the history of the fur trading era you will enjoy your time here. They have a beautiful Winchester rifle exhibit. Give yourself plenty of time.

This a definite must see Museum. Lots of old artifacts and an outstanding rifle collection. We went in the winter so was asked to call for reservations to get in. Extremely friendly staff and were very accommodating.

Great local history

If you care to learn a bit about this incredibly beautiful area and not just familiarize yourself with the bars and eateries, you must visit this beautiful little museum. A little jewel of a place with nice displays and a nice small tourist shop. A great place to spend an hour or two and fill your brain with local history.

A Gem

This is a great little museum highlighting a short but often romanticized slice of American History.

The displays are well done and tell the story well of the Mountain Man era. Placed near the site of one of the great rendezvous sites, it's a good family stop that should interest children and adults alike. The looped video is well done and informative also.

Beyond the fur trade era, if you hold an interest in firearms you'll be pleased with your visit.

Roaming through Wyoming after having been to Yellowstone we ran across this museum full of authentic mountain man and Indian artifacts and history. We really enjoyed it. Not very big but packed full of neat stuff.

Very nice museum on an interesting subject.

We enjoyed the museum, starting with the video. Who knew that mountain men usually didn't have beards? The museum has a wide variety of interesting artifacts displayed in a time sequence to tell the tale of the Mountain Man and his time.

The fur trade has long been a passion of mine, and this museum captures better than others the adventure, danger, excitement, hilarity, challenges faced by the mountain men - really top shelf.
