Beautiful beach with amazing views, soft sand, and clear water. Bring your snorkel gear as there are fish and sea turtles to see. The beach has lifeguards who are excellent and warn of dangers (Man-O War were in water one of the days we visited...More

Near the Hakalau Forest National Wildlife Refuge, the town was wiped out by a tsunami in 1946. It's hard to get to and the refuge is currently closed to self-guided visits due to worries about Rapid ʻŌhiʻa Death.

I hate to rate anything in Hawaii less than average, but this particular site is actually "less than average." Compared to other locations, you can do better. There really isn't much here except free parking, a grassy area, stream that runs into the bay, Halakua...More

Fun place. Reasonable park facilities. There is wading for kids in the stream to surfing in the bay. Lots of friendly locals. Beautiful valley. This is the kind of place to check out if you want to go beyond the gates of your resort.

Absolutely love it here! Spending two weeks here with our family in a VBRO rental. Such a beautiful area. Love taking early morning walks down to the park. The scenery puts me into sensory overload. I could definitely take up residence here in a heartbeat!

Very secluded, relaxed and often overlooked. Place needs more up keeping, but either you love it or hate it. Take a chance and explore this place. Un-crowded yet with local character.

Hakalau Beach is just like Jurassic Park if you walk to the ocean near the small waterfall and look back. A main waterway flows into the Ocean. We were warned not to swim very close to where the Ocean and river meet. Definitely no swim...More
