This was a fun stop as we explored Hilo. It is free therefore family budget friendly. The tigers are so cool! The gardens are gorgeous. The monkeys and birds are entertaining.

We enjoyed our visit to the Panaewa Rainforest Zoo and Gardens, but the emphasis is more on the gardens. It is a lovely place to walk around and a good size for smaller children. We really liked the benches shaped like animals! The highlight of...More

The zoo is smallish and, since the death of Namaste, it seems even smaller. Get there early and enjoy the cool walk.

We wanted an easy day after a very long flight in the day before. We enjoyed wondering the grounds but over all not the most impressive zoo we've been to. It was free so that's a plus...just give a donation.

Lovely grounds with "lipstick" palms and orchids and a nice selection of animals and birds. We loved the white tiger - and the Capuchin monkey put on quite a show tossing his toys about like a two year old with an attitude:) Any one of...More

There were many common animals as well as some very unusual ones. Loved the Tucans and Macaws. Wear comfortable shoes for walking. The white tiger was majestic.

It's a rainforest zoo, with free admission, and just outside of Hilo. Even without kids we enjoyed our time here! If we'd had our kids with us we would've blocked off more time to spend here. We loved seeing the giant anteaters, roaming peacocks, and...More

I visited here as a little treat to myself between getting off the plane and traversing to the Kona Coast. What a delight. The Snow Leopards are right there - definitely close enough to look them in the eye! All the animals are close enough...More

We enjoyed our short visit to this free zoo. They had a few unique specimens. It was quiet and pretty. We spent about an hour there. It was super humid though. We were dripping in sweat by the end. Still fun for those who like...More

I would bet not because there are peacocks walking around on the property. Better call to check.

Aloha - its about a 15 minute drive from the cruise port. You will need a taxi or a rental car. Its near the Macadamia nut factory (farm) as well so you may want to see both while you are out there.
