I love to putter, walk and explore this area. An easy relaxing spot to spend a few hours. Go for a swim in the beautiful ocean. Keep your eyes open when walking in the shallow water in the rocks. You may be lucky to see...More

I's one of the best beaches in the Hilo area. Good place for the kids too. Best when not windy, but that goes for everywhere. I've even seen turtles swimming about (do not disturb!) and occasionally whales offshore. Go early, less wind, easier to find parking.

Great place to snorkel and see turtles but please keep your distance and let them do their thing! We had a great time exploring here!

We came around noon to snorkel a bit. Unfortunately didn't spot any sea turtles, but the water is clear and the coastline is pretty. This seems to be one of the more popular beach locations in the area

You will see several large sea turtles that will swim right up to you on a calm day. They are over 80 years old. We were fortunate to be there when someone was there that could answer lots of questions. Great photo opportunities.

The locals call this area “4 Miles” since it is filled with back-to-back beauty, parks, swimming spots, surfing areas, and other places to enjoy. We set our GPS for Carl Smith Beach Park; but when we got there, we didn’t see a sign with that...More

Beaches on eastern and southern sides of the Big Island tend to be rough and rocky, with very few calm, sandy beaches available for families with small children. Carlsmith beach hits a sweet spot in that it's relatively calm and accessible, though you need some...More

Don't expect a sandy beach but a great and protected almost tide-pool like area for snorkeling with easy access to the water. We saw 4 different sea turtles all in one snorkel and observed these beautiful creature from a distance under water. Turtles were chilled...More

Lovely little bay with safe lagoon in which to swim. Safe for little ones. Turtles swim around your feet as you stand in the water. Parking available near by.

I suspect a taxi is very easy to hire for this location.
