We were very disappointed in the tour, the tour guide was obviously inexperienced. her narration of the tour was memorized and without enthusiasm. No coffee making operations were taking place
and the tour was extremely short with no demonstrations. You were given 1 cup of coffee at the start and when I asked for some flavoring, I was told that would be an extra charge. The tour and coffee were expensive . Directly afterwards we visited a coffee farm down the street, they had cafés of coffee for unlimited free tasting and were very hospitable. When they over heard me saying that I liked iced coffee, they went into another room and brought out a pitcher of iced coffee so that I could taste that brew.

Disappointed that Kona Joe Coffee apparently supports staff that are literally wearing net masks to give tours, contrary to rules in Hawaii. Hard to support a business that does not want to help protect the tourists and families trying to visit. I snapped a pic of the girl giving the tour with her net mask on, want to bet she's also probably unvaccinated? I did not spend any money here because of this. I did give an extra star for the view though, although we left rather quickly.

This was a last minute unplanned stop. The location is really lovely compared to some of the other coffee farms we passed. We only saw one employee who appeared immersed in his phone and the gift shop items were pretty pricey. Coffee samples were just OK. Still worth the unplanned detour.

We chose the ultimate brewing experience, which was on my wife’s bucket list, and though it was a bit pricey (only my wife paid, I was just the observer/photographer), I felt it was worth it. We have toured Kona Joe’s before, so this time we just went for it and I’m glad we did. We received a private tour with an awesome facilitator/guide, along with the roasting experience (5 pounds after the roasting was done, divided into ten bags, labeled, and shipped home for clients), and even some swag (mugs and unique hats) to take away. All in all, a very informative and enjoyable day at THE Kona coffee farm.

This is a tour you can skip. The "tour" includes looking at 1 coffee plant near the main building, not in the fields. Then a video that shows some of the production process. Then to a room where they sort the beans by size and weight. Next where they can roast the beans. Nothing was operational. You get a shot glass size sample and are able to purchase the expensive coffee. Other tours are worth the time and money. The one saving grace is the views from the store of the ocean and down by the shoreline.

I don’t think I have ever gone to the source of where something is made, Kona Joe coffee, and had such a poor experience. First the coffee was not that great. Second the staff was so unhappy, complaining about Covid when they just re-opened recently, one might think they should be happy there working, and another annoyed to share with me the origins of the story of Kona Joe by literally pushing a play button for an introduction. I definitely did not buy the coffee and a self tour guide and highly recommend people skip this place.

The setting was beautiful, but this is not the place to get a gourmet cup of coffee. We ordered two pour overs ($12 each) excited to try a couple of their different roasts. To my dismay, they didn’t even grind the beans fresh for each cup, rather the grounds were just scooped out of a bag of pre-ground beans. Who knows how long ago those beans were ground and roasted, and the ground size wasn’t right for a pour over. I should have realized the red flag when I saw a long list of flavored syrups that they could add to your coffee. Also they were very under staffed and the woman working at the counter seemed quite upset to have to be serving the coffee— and there is a dog wandering the property that apparently is “not good wit children” so be careful. The coffee was pretty good, and it was cool to see the farm. However, don’t come here on a pilgrimage for a transcendent cup (or a welcoming environment).

We did the tour and the coffee roasting. It was really interesting. Our tour guide from Kentucky (sorry, his name slipped my mind) taught us a lot about the history, growing and roasting of coffee. The actual roasting was really fun, you get to roast your own 8 oz of coffee to your own taste, which takes about 15 minutes for dark roast and was far more complicated than I ever would have guessed. Jeff was a great roasting teacher, and Mr Bean taught me many things about using a french press and more. The coffee they serve is also really good if you're just there for that.

We did the Ultimate tour which included the opportunity to roast our own 5lb bag of Kona. This was an absolute highlight to our trip!
The roast master, was incredibly personable and took time to answer all of our questions and gave us great tips for enjoying our brew back home.
We just got back from our trip and make our first batch our own roasted blend and it’s exceptional! Worth the price tag for this experience.

My family loves coffee so I spent on the Guided Tour. The “Guide” knew little about growing coffee or leading a tour. Overall, not informative tour, not allowed to actually visit the coffee plants, and the promised 12 oz cup of Kona Joe Coffee was also not provided. If you like coffee, find somewhere else. Kona Joe was disappointing. I wish I had the time and money back.

the guides are super helpful and I would think children age 5 and up would be involved by the guides and find it pretty interesting. The view is great and the shop is fun but easy to check over fairly quickly , so likely no loss of attention span.

I will be visiting in April 2018 and will be staying in Hilton Waikoloa. If i booked a taxi to get to your site, would you be able to organise a taxi for me so i can get back to the hotel. I can't drive.

I am sure you could get a Taxi or Uber to take you to Kona Joe's and I know they could arrange for a return to your Hotel. You might want to also contact the Hilton and see if they have any program tours available that would take small groups to visit some of the Coffee Plantations. Highly recommend Kona Joe's and don't hesitate to call or email them -- sure they would welcome you and give you reassurance that you could get back to the Hotel with no concerns!

What is the cheapest way to get to your plantation from a cruise ship
Written 17 April 2017
Aloha,
The cheapest way to come to our farm will be using a Uber or a taxi. If you are planning to visit more spots in the island you might look for renting a car.
Taxi driver Ricky his phone is (808)640-4871

What is the best way to get there? Is there a tour company you recommend or should I be renting a car?
Written 1 April 2015
Aloha! Will you be staying in Kona or will you be visiting via cruise ship? If you will be staying in Kona, best thing to do is rent a car so you will be able to get around easier. Everything seems to be spread out :) If you will be mainly taking guided tours with tour companies and do not want to rent a car, you can take a taxi up to us. We are about 15 minutes south of Kailua-Kona (not very far). If you will be visiting us via cruise ship, you can either take a taxi or rent a car and there is also a shore excursion that includes a stop at our farm. If you are coming this way, please let me know and i can find out which tour is available from your ship. Please let me know if you have any other questions, we would love for you to stop by and see us! You can also reach me directly at 808-322-2100.
Hope to hear from you soon!
Mahalo!
