- RaggedyAnn_11Saint Louis, Missouri97 contributionsSo much more than coffee! We toured Greenwell farms one afternoon after lunch. I am not a coffee drinker,I was interested to see the process of growing, roasting, and producing it. I was so pleasantly surprised to see everything they grow on the farm. It's so much more than coffee. Pineapples, banannas, vanilla beans, herbs, and so much more. Our tour guide was amazing(sorry I forgot your name), but he gas worked there a very long time. He explained everything to us as we toured the farm. It was interactive and informative. We don't have kids ourselves, but others in our tour group did, and he did a great job keeping them engaged. I would recommend this tour if you are in the area. The tour is free, and so are the coffee samples. They have a nice gift shop, which makes a nice place to buy some souvenirs and help a local business.Mahalo for visiting! We are so glad you enjoyed your visit! - steve s206 contributionsKona coffee tour and tasting! We visited Greenwell Farms Oct. 27, 2023 for a free tour and coffee tasting. Matt Carter was our guide for an interesting and educational tour. He answered dozens of questions while he provided an in depth look into not only Greenwell farm but the Kona coffee industry as well. His use of anecdotes throughout the tour kept the 15-20 visitors interested and involved. Visitors included people from down the road to the mainland, Denmark and Sweden. After the tour he continued to educate us while we tasted a full range of Kona coffees. We are happy we went.Steve, mahalo for sharing your kind words about your tour with Matt at Greenwell Farms! This was a free tour, we were greeted with a warm welcome and several coffees to taste before the tour started. We had a two and four year old on the tour, don't bring them. Ours ended up going back to the car with an adult. The tour was informative. We are glad that you enjoyed the informative tour! We hope to engage guests of all ages, even kids! - Brenda KAnchorage, Alaska130 contributionsExceptional Deluxe Tour and Tasting with Kawena! My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our Greenwell Farms Deluxe Tour and Tasting with Kawena. He was extremely knowledgeable, personable, passionate and patient with all of our questions. Chai was educational in explaining all the requirements to becoming a certified Q- Grader-the highest title in coffee tasting. WOW! Visiting the farm gave us an enriched understanding of the extremely high standards Greenwell Farms places on their coffee and a better insight into the manpower and cost of producing 100% Kona Coffee. Thanks Tom Greenwell for being an ambassador and producing exceptional 100% Kona Coffee products. Additionally, thanks Kawena for a memorable time we will cherish and remember. I highly recommend visiting Greenwell Farms. My husband and I have been visiting Kona for over 15 years and Greenwell Farms has continued to exceed our expectations every time. We look forward to seeing you on our next vacation-your Alaskan Friends. We are so appreciative of you taking the time to enjoy a Deluxe Tour & Tasting with us! - Lanie K11 contributionsCoffee lovers must!We were entertained by Matt - who displayed his expertise as an educator of teenagers; he imparted so much information about what goes into making coffee in general and what makes Kona coffee unique. Of course we tasted the variety of coffees made by Greenwell farms. - fizzy1991Nashville, Tennessee5,974 contributionsThe most amazing and informative tour of a coffee farmThis was an excellent tour that I recommend to anyone visiting the Big Island of Hawaii. It didn't have a touristy feel because you are on the working farm. The tasting was amazing and I'm not a coffee drinker. Don't be put off by the price of the coffee because if you understand what goes into each pound you will respect the outcome.Thank you for sharing these very kind words! The tour is free, which is cool. The caliber of this tour is better than a lot of those paid tours. Their coffee is good and make sure to do yourself a favor and taste all those coffees. If you're on the big island just go.Thank you so much for sharing these kind words! - Sophisticated Boho13 contributionsGreat for Coffeeholics and Casual DrinkersI read that this tour was for “coffee nerds,” so that was all I needed to hear to want to go. My husband was pretty lukewarm on the idea, as he thinks, foodie topics can be boring and/or too obscure. We both went and LOVED it! They walked us through the orchards and various processing sites. Wonderful aromas wafted around us. We learned about taste profiles, the professional certification that is the equivalent of a sommelier’s degree, and then were guided through a “cupping“ taste exercise with delicate and bold flavors. Our tour guide was a very down to earth Hawaiian man who knew a lot about Hawaiian culture, history, biology, coffee production, the business, etc.We LOVE our fellow coffee nerds! Free coffee samples are available but prices to purchase are pretty high and not worth it to us. - nhsgary79 contributionsGreat free tour and samplesWe stumbled on this and we are so glad we did. The farm does free tours throughout the day. Each tour is 50 to 70 minutes long. There is minimal walking, but you are on a a farm, so wear something other than flip-flops. Our guide Nate was fantastic. He engaged everyone and was very animated and informative. The tour walks you around a section of the farm where you get to see the whole coffee-growing process from tree to roasted bean. At the end you can sample several different types of their coffees. Even though we are not coffee drinkers, this was a very useful and interesting way to spend an hour or so.Thank you for joining us on a farm tour with Nate! We have visited Greenwell Farms many times over the past 15 years, including paying a recent visit on June 11th. The tasting experience was wonderful, as usual, with over nine types of coffee available to try with the honor system in place that allows you to sample as much coffee as you like. Every time we visit, we take the tour since we learn or experience something new each time. On this trip, the tour was covered by Olivia, who did an excellent job taking questions and sharing details regarding the farm history and coffee. She also took us through the grove with the oldest coffee trees on the plantation, which was a first for me. While we visit the farm often, we had family join us from the midwest on this trip. It was their first trip to Hawaii and the Greenwell Farm. They enjoyed their visit and were glad we spend the morning on the farm.

My group and I really enjoyed this tour of Greenwell Farms. Hiroshi, our tour guide, was fantastic. He was informative and funny, charismatic and genuine, and we very much appreciated his enthusiasm, especially under the broiling Hawaiian sun; it was hot but that did not diminish his efforts to show us the coffee making process.
The farm's plants were also gorgeous and deserved to be shown off. In addition to the coffee plant, we also saw bananas, peppercorns, and orchids (among others).
We ended up purchasing a bag of the dark chocolate covered macadamia nuts and they were a delicious treat.
This is one of those things where the tour guide really helps to make or break the visit, and Hiroshi took great care of us. Very thankful to him!

Olivia our tour guide was so fun! She did a fantastic job walking us around the farm, showing us the different fruits and coffee trees and was just an overall cool person. We learned a lot about what make Kona coffee special, the land and all of the time it takes to get the amazing cup of Kona coffee. The farm is a beautiful place to spend your morning (it is a farm so the sun is direct but they did provide umbrellas for those who needed protection from the sun!) smelling coffee and seeing where and how it is made. They offer free samples of all of their blends (their reserve is by far my favorite) and they also have a cute gift shop where you can purchase apparel and fresh fruits from the farm. They also have benches and picnic tables for those who would like to sit and enjoy their samples.

Their coffee has some good quality taste however I would not recommend visitors to come, and I do not agree that they reflect the majority 5 stars seen on the other reviews. The free complimentary tour was quite sad with dry information and given at a pace where it was easy for many of us to quickly lose focus and wander off. It would have been much more effective it there was more interactive material and visual demonstrations rather than ongoing verbal sentences.
The coffee sample tasting area was nice with a lot of variety. I highly recommend and redirect potential visitors to try other coffee farms, you are not missing anything here. I'm providing 3 stars because their products were decent and they offered a generous sample selection.

This was an incredibly interesting tour, absolutely free too. I learned things about coffee I've never know and I've been a coffee connoisseur for most of my life. We walked around the grounds, saw the other things they grow including peppercorns and pineapple. Their coffee is expensive, but if you get some, make sure you buy beans and not ground. I bought a sampler that was ground and I'm sure it would have been fresher if I'd bought whole bean.

What an amazing coffee tour and it was free! This tour is for both non-coffee and coffee lovers. Our guide was Chai and WOW, she is beyond amazing. She loves what she does, and it shows. We were the lucky beneficiaries of her knowledge. The tour takes you from berry to roasting and everything in between. The farm is beautiful and lots of other produce growing on the farm. We tasted the berries the coffee beans come from, lychee, pepper, and were given the most gorgeous avocado the size of a small football. The pride Chao takes in working for this farm made it all the more special. Coffee tasted great too and the prices were reasonable for 100% Kona grown coffee. We were with our three 20 something sons, and they really enjoyed it too. Not boring. Visit the farm and ask for Chai!

This was exactly what I was looking for - history, interesting stories, learning about coffee and how it is grown and processed and the added bonus was the other plants that are also grown here. I would allow at least 2 hours here to be safe - wait a bit on the front end for the next tour, a bit over an hour for the tour, then some time to shop afterwards. WELL worth my time!
Note: The tour is all walking/standing and on dirt/gravel paths. OK for someone with minor mobility issues (i.e. uses a cane) but I wouldn't recommend for anyone who can't stand for an hour. You don't walk FAR, the time is mostly spent listening to the stories and information.

Our family group of 7 adults and 1 child visited the coffee farm. Dave was an excellent tour guide, describing all the steps of the coffee process and the dynamics of the Kona and global coffee markets. We came away with a new appreciation for the work and dedication that goes into growing this crop. We are learned about other items grown on the farm such as pepper and bananas. Dave did a great job engaging our younger family member by answering his questions and engaging his areas of curiosity.
At the end of the tour, you have the option to taste test 10 different coffees from the farm. Tour is complimentary, but our group bought several items to bring home. Don’t miss this tour!

It was an amazing and informative tour l d by Dave. He was most knowledgeable about the coffee process from bean to cup. The tour is a lot of walking up and down steep uneven ground, but well worth the time. The tour is free and your reward at the end is tasting the amazing coffee. You can alderman buy beans or ground coffee yo take home.

We opted for the private tour and scheduled it though email. We had Matt as our guide and we couldn’t have been happier. He was incredibly knowledgeable, educational, and entertaining. He kept us engaged throughout the entire tour and answered all of our questions. After the tour we did a private cupping. Matt walked us through tasting different types of coffee and it set our new standard on what good coffee should taste like. Matt and the team at Greenwell Farms were all welcoming to us. We highly recommend doing the private tour and cupping. It’s a very positive experience that you’ll come away from with a new appreciation for coffee!

can you buy Greenwell's coffee a in the airport?

I am not aware of that. BUT agree with the other review concerning online coffee purchase either type in browser Greenwell Farms Coffee or use the website Greenwellfarmscom
It should work and hope this helped.

Did they tell you they will roast your coffee beans for you? They do so for our farm which we sell to others. They do a rather Professional quality job! It is crowded and busy in there so probably best that you did not go inside! It is well organized and efficient for certain.

Our roasts are enjoyed by a lot of folks who know where we are at and how to ask for them! We are on a century old coffee farm with about 4 dozen neighbors who all have small family coffee farms.
