It is a very long hike to the Green Beach. The beach is beautiful. There are locals that will drive you and allow you to stay 30 min. We heard several different prices that they charge. Make sure you take plenty of water and some snacks.

This was what my daughter really wanted to do on the Big Island. We got a ride for $15.00 per person and I think it was worth it. My mom would have had a hard time getting there and back. The beating that those vehicles take is worth the money. We rode with an 11 year old that had been... More

This was a must-see for me, but your GPS won't get you there. It will get you to the parking lot, but from there you will have to pay too much for one of the locals to shuttle you to the beach. Otherwise you will need a four-wheel-drive and some luck. There is a veritable maze of trails leading out... More

Take the SouthPoint turn off of highway 11. Travel 8 miles and stay left at the fork . There is a parking area and the choice to pay $15 for a ride on the back of a pickup there and back. We hiked in the 2.5 miles on flat and rolling terrain. It is easy to find your way as... More

You have white and black sand beaches around the world, but there are only two green sand beaches. So, take the chance and visit Papakōlea Green Sand Beach! There's a small parking lot. Park there and don't try to drive to the beach with your rental 4x4. You can walk or drive the 2-3 miles with a local. They offer... More

We hit this beach on our way to the southernmost point in the US and it was beautiful. Nestled down beneath some cliffs it is not the easiest place to get to. There is a moderate walk 2-3 miles in hot conditions past coastline littered with a disgusting amount of plastic as well as a very steep descent down the... More

Drive as far as you can go and then let a local take you the rest of the way. Trust me! Do not try to drive it. We saw a jeep stuck in the mud and needed a local to pull them out. I rode with , I think his name was Michael, almost around sunset out to the beach.... More

We read the reviews so we knew the road there was bad. Until you experience yourself you have no idea how bad! DO NOT ATTEMPT in rental vehicle. Just don't. Pay the $15. We were in an astro van which turned out to be a blessing. You don't get covered in dirt and aren't facing those winds! Every person we... More

This is a cool place to see and check off your "bucket-list" but here's some tips: You will arrive at a dirt parking lot which looks like the end of the line, the locals would like you to believe that you can't drive any further because they will offer to take you for money. This "parking lot" is still 3... More

12 mile drive from the HWY yielded an OK tourist spot. Porta-potties provided by (County?) were horrible. Parking was just as bad, just a tramped-down rock/dirt semi-level area. We didn't use the local atv vehicle (& the fees) because it was getting late in the day. The views were great, 100' high cliffs looking down into deep azure water breaking... More
