The Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden is a 501(c)(3) Scientific and Educational non-profit, whose mission is to serve as a nature preserve and sanctuary, a living seed bank, and a study center for trees and plants of the tropical world. The Garden is dedicated to the collection and display of the world's tropical plants, and to the education of both children and adults about the plight of the world's rainforests. At a time when rainforest plants are disappearing at an alarming rate, the Garden is working to preserve as many species as possible for the benefit of future generations.

Best garden on Hawaii

Spend about an hour walking through tropical plants, native and from other parts of the world. Slow down and look in every direction. Be sure to wear bug spray!

I was able to visit the Botanical Garden on my last day on the Big Island. And this by far was one of my favorite sites on the Island. The garden is well kept and has the most beautiful plants I've ever seen. Besides the exotic plants, there's waterfalls, streams, and a breathtaking view of the ocean at the end... More

We had an amazing time here. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Gardens were spectacular! I took many pictures of the beautiful flowers and gardens. I would highly recommend. We enjoyed our picnic lunch at picnic tables at spot #21 (as recommended by one of the staff.) Go here!!

We visit here every trip. Plan two hours to explore lush tropical plants. Even kids and jaded teens are amazed at this place.

We went to the Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden twice during our stay. The 1st time was about 330pm on a Wednesday. The gal in the office told us we needed at least 2 hours to see everything, so we went back 2 days later. I'm not much on flowers and plants, but my wife loved it! She's crazy about orchids... More

A well-planned and beautifully planted garden that enchants the visitor. The huge tropical plants are fascinating but so are the little hidden orchids in the nooks of the forest-like gardens. Take some time to talk with the workers--they are knowledgable and clearly love their work. A treasure of tropical flowers and foliage that must not be missed if you love... More

The walk through the Botanical Garden was a downhill descent through lush tropical foliage and ended up on the coastline. So many well-labeled plants from all over the world, kept me interested and tranquil, as we meandered from site to site. Well worth the 1-2 hours to tour the grounds leisurely. Even the uphill return was not bad.

If you like plants and flowers this is where to go. The abundance of vegetation is over whelming and beautiful. Great views of the ocean. Warning, it is a steep climb down and back up, but well worth it in the end.
