We drove up the Kuhio hyway to see the Limahuli gardens; the road narrows after Hanalei and there are several one-lane bridges that may require stops. When we arrived at the gardens we were greeted and given an explanation of the gardens mission, history, and future goals. We considered the entrance fee of $20 to be a reasonable fee to... More

It was drizzling much of the time were here but we had umbrellas and a wonderful visit. We were a bit surprised at the high entrance fee but it was more than worth it, and it must cost a lot to keep this large area maintained, not to mention continuousy improved. Located in an idyllic valley, tropical beauty is everywhere... More

What a find. We were unable to get into the garden we first selected. So glad we didn't and happened on this gem. It's funded by a trust to preserve native plant life and is located on what had been a native village. Enjoyed meeting those entrusted with its care - they were very special people and we thoroughly enjoyed... More

Our tour guide (Jane) was very informative about the history of Hawaiian early civilization/plants. We were there in January so no flowers but lots of botanical.

This is truly a Hawaiian experience by wonderful conservation experts. There are many indigenous plants that they carefully gather and care for. They also provide historical Hawaiian information. At the top of the garden there is an amazing view of the ocean and we got to see whales breaching. We have been to all of the gardens on the island... More

Check out this end of the road surprise. Beautiful mountainous garden, up close to the Makana. Spectacular views with many native, plantation and canoe plants. Cute gift shop. Go there every visit to Kaua'i . Love Limahuli stream.

We came across these gardens on a drive to the North Shore. If the last 2 parking lots near the beach hadn't been full, we would have missed this hidden gem! The gardens are on the left just before you come to the end of the road. When you drive up what looks like a private driveway, there is a... More

I did this hike alone but I think it would have been really awesome with someone. Some of it is rather steep and difficult but it is beautiful the entire way. A lot of it is under tree cover so the humidity can get quite up there but that is to be expected.

This is a stunning garden and worth at least an hour to walk around and enjoy the stunning landscape. You will receive a booklet that will help guide you on your walk, explaining the botanical delights in the garden. It's an easy walk for all ages too and the staff offers free walking sticks should you or someone in your... More

We come to Limahuli Gardens every time we're in Kauai. Years ago, we volunteered as workers inside the garden pulling weeds and invasive plants, planting native trees or seedlings from now recovered endangered plants, while enjoying an artfully planned landscape on once sacred land of "about 1,000 acres, nearly 250 taxa of native plants and birds, 50 of them on...
