The gardens are breathtakingly beautiful and a testament to the vision of founders Ed and Joyce Doty. I was able to take the 90-minute Stroll tour for free, through my membership in the Idaho Botanical Garden. The American Horticultural Society maintains a reciprocal program that provides admission to more than 300 member gardens nationwide. Otherwise, it would have cost me... More

We were lucky enough to get a tour with Julie, the most passionate docent I have ever met. She obviously loves the albatross and has devoted her retirement to them. She is so gentle with them and they easily accept her in their midst. She also gave us a fascinating tour of the plants and trees in the Gardens.

I volunteer at Botanical Gardens and visit them everyplace I travel. I had read online of the history of NaAinaKai and had expected so much more in regards to signage, array and variety of plants, as well as knowledge by our guide. I took the 1 1/2 hour tour and should have taken note when we were brought to a... More

This was our second visit to the gardens and we were just so mesmerized by the different habitats, and the Laysan Albatrosses, known as mōlī in Hawaiian. Our guide was professional and gave a wealth of information about the history of the different gardens and detailed description of the trees and flowers. It borders the ocean and gives spectacular views... More

This place has something for everyone! We had a wonderful tour with docent Julie. Our tour included a visit behind a locked gate to a Laysan Albatross nesting site. What a treat to see these magnificent birds up close. They have no fear of humans and frame filling photos are a snap (pun intended), even while maintaining a respectful distance.... More

Three of us took the ride and stroll tour on a misty- rain off and on type of day. Julie was our tour guide and the gardens were amazing and the albatross so interesting and so close. Well worth the money! Julie was so knowledgeable. This is a differnt type of botanical gardens so don't expect the manicured bushes etc.... More

What creativity! Although it was either misting or raining we enjoyed our tour this morning. The bronze sculptures were the highlight for me! Our guide Lucille was pretty knowledgeable.

We visited on the first day of our trip. It was "blustery," but the gardens provide ponchos on the Ride-Walk tours. Julie spent time discussing and identifying the canoe plants and others, but even more interesting were the discussions regarding the funding of the Gardens, a not-for-profit trust. Managed harvests of the hardwood trees make the Gardens both self-sustaining and... More

We were in Hawaii to see albatrosses, which nest off the north shore and can be seen from the lighthouse, and we did. But never did we expect to see them nesting at the botanical garden--superb looks in fact; even saw them courting. But that's us. We also love botany, and make it a point to visit a site wherever... This 240 acre forest, botanical and sculpture garden, bird sanctuary and children's interpretative center is a wonderful way to get to know about the plants, birds and history of the Northshore. It is also an event center and wedding venue. The founders, the Doty's started this center as private gardens, but now it is a non-profit. Recommend the 3 hour ride... More
