We did this hike in the afternoon. It was challenging due to the extreme downhills, uphills, and loose dirt. The waterfalls were not what I was expecting and we did not have water along! Bring water

It's mostly in forest, but when it comes out in the open the views on the canyon are great. We couldn't complete it because there was a river to cross and it wasn't clear where the path was going after that.

Three 30-somethings from Chicago/DC. This was my favorite hike of the trip. It was a easy to moderate hike and I loved the views of the canyon. We drove into Pu’u Hinahina viewpoint and parked there. Bathrooms were available and parking was fine. It was lightly raining when we started but stopped about 20 minutes in and the trail was... More

1.8 miles, mostly shade, each way to/fro the waterfall. Two hours just for the 3.6 miles round trip. It is an easy trail to follow, but difficult due to being down-down-down there and up-up-up back + tree roots sticking up most of the way. The waterfalls - which are nice, but not gigantic - are coupled with a pool below... More

I always look out for a good hike on all of my trips and learned about Canyon Trail in Kokee State Park during my research. We arrived at the trailhead and head to the trail. You have a little bit of a walk before you get to the start of the actual trail. It is all downhill to that point... More

Nobody knows about this canyon. But it is no less beautiful than the Grand canyon or Bryce canyon. A very beautiful place!

I guess because we've done so much canyon hiking in the desert, I wasn't expecting so much of this trail to be wooded, and from the descriptions I read I thought this would be easier. I would rate this moderately strenuous. It's mostly downhill going in, and mostly uphill coming out. Lots of tree roots to trip you up. And... More

Our first morning we awoke very early due to the time change (5am felt like 10am!), so we decided to set out from Poipu to Waimea to take a hike. Our concierge suggested this hike, and we absolutely loved it! The views were incredible. It starts out in a heavily wooded area, which was nice and shady, with a mainly... More

My wife and I ventured up to Waimea Canyon yesterday, because we heard it was an absolute must while on Kauai. I can confirm, 100%, that you absolutely need to spend the day there if you are on the island! We decided to hike the trail, which they say is about 2-3 hours one way. Be prepared to bring water,...
