Best part: clean public restrooms. Worst part: little to see of 1817 ruins. No archeology has been done. Hard to visualize what it was like to live here in its best days as only some stones remain. Limited annotations. However the site does add another (small) piece to the historical story of the islands.

I hope that someone rebuilds this historic fort so many can really enjoy this area. It has so much potential to become a beautiful tourist stop. Just clear out the hobo camp by the water and it would draw people in.

Maybe there used to be a fort, but there is so little left - just drive by? There are more interesting stops on the island. check out the japanese graveyard above glass beach in the Port Allen area....

We stopped here on our last day. Wouldn't recommend as something that needs to be seen. Spend more time at other places.

A bunch of rocks and bolders. Seriously, is that on every map as a must see? Good that was between the bay and the Kauai Coffee and didn't have to do a special trip.

There is nothing to see at this site other than dirt and very limited signage. Too bad. Great potential for local history here. Perhaps on-line research will provide more information. This is a small parking lot / pull out off of the highway. Yes, you can see the ocean from here, but that's all you see and there are many... More

I guess if you're really into the historical side of things, it could be seen as a quick, novel thing to stop in and learn something about. As far as visual goes, it's more of a pile of organized rocks than a fort - I've seen a greater semblance of a fort in 6,000 year old Thracian ruins in Plovdiv,... More

This was a short stop on the way to Waimea canyon. The history was very interesting but the site was run down and in a sad state. If you have time, stop for a few minutes and see a piece of unique history.

This has an interesting story but there is very little of the fort left. Worth the walk down to the beach to stretch your legs and to see the black sand.

Could tell where the fort used to be ... the wall is there but not anything spectacular... a walk to the beach revealed multiple homeless beach shelters, we got the hell out of dodge because it looked like a shantytown.
