Ok, I'm only doing 3 stars here because we missed the sunset due to weather. Hence the title. We did this the morning after our wedding for a symbolic sunrise to start our new lives together and while the sun did rise, the clouds and rain blocked the view from the summit. We probably would have gone anyway, but I... More

We drove to the Summit Observatory on a very clear sunny day. It was 46 F and very windy, so it was difficult to walk with the high wind and uncomfortable to walk around much due to cold. We stopped at both of the lower elevation observation points, and found the views of the whole crater to be much better... More

The tour company picked us up about 2:15am. Then drove about 1 1/2 hours to the base of Haleakala, then another 22 miles up the mountain to the viewing area. Elevation is 10,000 ft. We arrived at 4:30am and then waiting in the viewing area for the sun to rise at 5:45am. It was a truley beautiful sunrise. Then went... More

A must see...most scenic at Sunrise and Sunset...but worth the trip any time of day...be sure to pack food and drink and have a full tank of gas, as none are available in the park...bring along a heavy coat of sweater as it will be cold on top...feeling really adventurous, hike down into the crater and your have the feeling... We have done this trip a few times. You have to reserve your tickets in advance for $1.50. They only allow about 150 cars up there. The park charges $20 a car to get in, however you can use your ticket for 3 days at the seven sacred pools stop on the road to hana. Wear warm clothes and if... More

Haleakala National Park is a great trip to take when you want to get out of the sun for a bit. The caldera is full of beautiful colours. If you like to hike, there is a hiking path through it, but I don't know much about it so you'd have to do more research. At the top of Haleakala, you... More

This was my third trip up Haleakala and it is STILL awe inspiring with it's amazing views! The drive was just as I remembered, but not as scary in the afternoon. My 2 prior trips were sunrise trips in the cold. I'm happy to have a new experience of an afternoon trip. The temps weren't nearly as cold as early... More

We visited the summit area for the sunrise just after February 1st, which meant that we had to preregister on line just to get into the parking lot. Arrive early for the stars and stay for the light show when the sun starts to peek over the horizon. Spectacular display in all the colors of the rainbow. The staff at... More

The drive doesn't take long and the views going up are spectacular. Be sure to take a jacket and maybe long pants because it is bit colder at the top.
