Get up super early for the drive up to the top of Haleakala and dress warmly; seriously warmly...wrap your hotel blanket around you or better yet pack scarf mittens and when the light of day you see your eyelashes wrapped in frost you'll be glad I warned you! 31f up there but oh my gosh how very beautiful to be... As you climb Haleakala you will pass the gatehouse and then see the Visitor Center on the right shortly thereafter. Do stop in and talk with the rangers - they will be able to tell you what is going on at the top of the mountain as well as point you to places you might want to see other than... More

We did a sunrise tour and then biked down the mountain and stopped in a quaint little town for breakfast. Getting up early and racing the other tour groups up the mountain for the sunrise tour was not my favorite. It was very chilly with a serious wind chill the morning we were there. I am a cold weather fan,... More

watching the sunrise from the top of Haleakala is life changing; the view from the top is mind blowing; and the drive up and down the mountain is a thrill. Be sure to take a jacket las the temperature up there can be a good 30 degrees cooler than down on the beach. There is so much to do in... More

Stopped in Kula for a late lunch, and then drove to the crater rim. Viewed the crater from several view points, and waiting for sunset. Absolutely beautiful view from above 10,000 feet barely.

Watching the sunrise from Haleakala was breathtaking! However, be sure to pack extra warm and be prepared for wind and moisture, regardless of time of year. Online reservation for Summit sunrise parking will begin on February 1st, so be sure to do that prior to going! Definitely worth the drive, mist and wind!

I was really looking forward to seeing the sunrise from the crater, but the weather had other ideas. My friends have renamed Haleakala Crater "Mist Mountain". But no one can control the weather. Our guide was very knowledgable and took us right up to the Summit and we also stopped at a couple of places on the way back down... More

We went up to see the Haleakala crater in the afternoon. The drive was very pleasant. It was interesting to see the clouds at around 5000 to 6000 feet and above that it was clear. You really do not see the top of the mountain or the crater from the ground. We decided to the trails in the afternoon and... More
