The Baldwin Home was built in 1834 and served as the home of a practicing physician, Rev. Dwight Baldwin who is credited for saving the people of Maui, Molokai and Lanai from the scourge of smallpox during the terrible epidemic of 1853. The home itself, its household furniture, aged photographs, artifacts, displays and library present a fascinating picture of the busy Sandwich Isles life as lived by a missionary who was both a physician and a constructive community force.

If you are into Hawaiiana or just enjoy a peek back into yesteryear on the islands this is a worthwhile stop. Lots of neat exhibits accompanied by docents who are eager to share their knowledge with anyone who is interested. Recommended.

If you are a history buff or James Michener "Hawaii" fan this is a must see. Very well preserved original mid-19th century artifacts, pictures, and documents.

What a fantastic stop on our visit to Lahaina! What was a casual stop turned into our most informative and interesting activity of the day (June 19). The docent was outstanding in her knowledge of the history not just of the Baldwin's but all of...More

I was interested in this museum because of a personal interest in the history of missionaries in HI, but others would enjoy it as well. It only took us about 30 min to walk through and see the displays. The staff were eager to answer...More

Take the time to visit this historic home amongst all the other more touristy Lahaina sites and sights. It represents a remarkable preservation effort, providing a most interesting understanding of the area's pioneering non-native missionary family, who later became prominent and successful sugar plantation developers...More

You are given a guided tour of the ground floor that takes only a few minutes or so, and then you're free to look around at your own pace. The home is interesting, and gives an idea of how the missionaries lived when the town...More
