Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Best beach for families with kids. Beach is protected by the reef close by creating an almost pool like environment.
Right across from great coffee house and specialty food and sandwich store

Quiet, shady beach. You can swim far out or stay near shore in completely still warm water. Decent snorkelling. Not very crowded any time we went there. Right across the street from great coffee and Farmers Market store for any snack or lunch items. Has a much chiller vibe than most Maui beaches nearby.

We walked here from our condo. It’s a nice park with trees, grass, and a small sandy beach. The snorkeling between the two rock walls looked decent from shore. It was a bit tricky to get into the deeper area with all the rocks, but once we were past that, there was a sandy bottom and shallow enough for us to stand. We did not see a lot. Ther current (parallel to shore) was strong and we had to front crawl against it even while wearing fins. We saw some fish but only briefly as they were afraid of us.
I would not recommend for snorkeling, but this park is a good place to hang out. There were little crabs on the beach and they were entertaining to watch. It looked like a good place for families with small kids to splash and play in the shallow water before the first rock wall.

If you are a very strong swimmer like myself, you will be rewarded by the endless bounty of gorgeous, colorful sea creatures to be seen while snorkeling here. I do NOT recommend this for moderate to novice swimmer, or for families. the locals hang out here and many times get drunk and or fight. I don't worry about that king of stuff due to my advanced U.S. Marine training, and ease fitting in anywhere in the world I go. However if this isn't you, then I would pass on this place as there are endless other great beaches and snorkel spots!

Honokowai Beach Park is the first beach we visit every time we go to Maui. It is quiet, generally uncrowded and peaceful with amazing views across the channel to Lanai and Molokai. The park has a play structure, picnic tables and a large, open grassy area.
This is not the beach to come to if you are looking for a wide, expanse of sun-kissed sand, stands offering paddle boards or food stands. There is a small strip of beach before rocks appear. However, the beach is wide enough for kids to build sand castles. My kids love to try and catch tiny fish hiding among the rocks with a net when the tide is low. Catch and release :)
At low tide, you can walk along the rocks, but surf shoes are helpful as the rocks can be sharp. Snorkeling is good beyond the rocks. We have seen several sea turtles even from the shoreline.
The parking is limited so the beach never really gets crowded. Often, locals go there with families for picnics.
I find it uber relaxing to sit in a beach chair, read my Kindle, listen to the slap of the waves on the rocks and look up at the amazing view after every page I read. Pure bliss in paradise.

We stayed in the condos right next to this beach park and had a great time. Every morning we watched the turtles eat off shore. We loved the grocery store across the street. Every evening we watched the sunset. I noticed someone mentioned seeing fights. In the week we spent there, we never saw anything like that. It is a local vibe (as opposed to a luxury resort) and we loved it. Mostly we saw local people doing yoga, walking dogs, and exercising.

We were looking for Napili Beach and stumbled onto this little beach thinking it was Napili. It seems to be where locals go. It has a playground for children, the beach has several picnic tables, large shade trees and a beautiful view. There are restrooms and outdoor shower. The red flags were up that day for the high waves but I still enjoyed walking along the edge. There is a coral (?) ledge that was under water which on some of the pictures posted here, it is visible. This particular day, there were 7 giant sea turtles sitting on this ledge facing out onto the ocean, it was so nice to witness! There were several locals doing some fishing, another local was sitting under one of the trees playing his ukulele. If I am lucky enough to visit Maui again, I will definately seek out this particular beach again.

This is a very small park, but has a little for everyone. It is right on the ocean. The beach had plenty of room. There is a natural rock break that provides a calm shallow swimming area that is great for small children. It also had access farther out for someone who wants to swim in the waves. There trees that provide shade. There is a small playground. There is a flat field area for group sports. There is also parking. The park was never crowded when we were there.

The parking is limited and the beach is large rocks. This is not a beach day, this is a snorkelling day.
It is a gentle walk to the water from the limited parking area. The toilets are porta potties.
You are there for the SNORKELLING!
The fish and coral are out about 200 meters and towards the edges. Be prepared to swim. The coral and fish are not right off shore as other locations are. Do not give up it is worth the effort.
Go early before the snorkel tours arrive. You do NOT have to take an excursion to get here if you have a car.
We lots of varieties of fish and someone said they saw an octopus. I missed it.
It was a cloudy and rainy day so the colors were not as vivid but there was still lots to see even in the rain.

I really wasn’t paying attention as I walked by the small park. It’s dog friendly. It is hard to bring your dog to Hawaii though. I’m assuming they were locals.

I know Steve Ashfield....so I'd give him a call. I can't see why you couldn't have a party catered...but keep in mind, you'll be sharing the park with other families and their four-legged friends. I use to own a condo that bordered on that park. It's just OK. Beach isn't all that great. A MUCH better location and park is 5 minutes south at Ka'anapali' Airport Beach off Kai Ala Blvd. Nicer showers, restrooms, parking and beach & grassy area compared to Honokowai.
