Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Kalapawai Market, Kailua Beach, Oahu
If you are beachside at Kailua, then the Kalapawai Market is worth a visit. In a historic building and owned by the same family since 1992. Good spot for breakfast or lunch or just coffee with a few tables outdoors. It’s a mini market with groceries and lots of alcohol.

We stopped off for a spot of lunch - yummy freshly made sandwiches, freshly squeezed orange juice & homemade banana bread. There is seating inside and outside too for eating and resting before/after the beach!

We hit Kailua just after lunch. After getting checked in we needed a quick bite before heading to the beach. As the #1 rated restaurant we were confident we'd find something. It's a small deli type counter. Fresh salads and sandwiches are featured. Pizza is available. I had a cucumber caprese salad - really tasty and fresh! We've since been back 2 times. I split the Italian sandwich and it was good, too. Half was plenty. It's a great casual place - but don't let the outside fool you. The food is very tasty!

If you are going to Kailua Beach, stop at the Kalapawai Market to pick up beverages or fresh, made-to-order sandwiches or, for that matter, just about anything else you'll need. The market serves the local community and is just a short drive from the beach park. It is a full-service market, open at 6am and closes at 9pm. There is a small parking lot in front, but, despite the parking restrictions sign on the side street, I've seen numerous people park there, too. The service is friendly and helpful. Orders are filled quickly and at fairly reasonable prices for Hawaii. Check it out!

The Kalapawai Market is a great place to stop for a take out or eat in lunch while in Kailua. The sandwiches are fantastic and the New Zealand Meat Pies are brilliant! Be alert for crowds. Parking is tough but doable. Expect a wait. This is a popular place for a reason!

Great market to stop for a cup of coffee and a walk on the beach. Lot of sundry supplies and nice selection of wines. The deli offers a variety of sandwiches, wraps, and salads for breakfast, lunch and dinner take out. This is a local hangout that has a real taste of Hawaii.

This is a great place to stop by for sandwiches before heading to the beach. Great sandwiches, local coffee, milk, juices, etc. walking distance to Kailua beach.

Been to this Kalapawai several times for their tasty grab-and-go options, alcoholic and NA beverages for the beach, tropical bouquets, and high quality souvenirs. The other Kailua location further into K-town is wonderful as well and offers a more bistro-style sit down cafe vibe and fairly extensive lunch menu. The loaded marshmallow brownies (or anything out of the dessert case) is a must.

Kalapawai Historic Market located near Lanikai Beach and Kailua Beach is an institution in the Kailua neighborhood. Despite the bored and disinterested young employees we encountered that afternoon and the slow service, it is a terrific small market providing all the supplies you need for a nice picnic on the beach or for a quick bite in the morning or afternoon from the deli counter/kitchen. The fish tacos I ordered were some of the best I ever had.

We were trying to find somewhere to stop for breakfast before a kayak expedition and while I am sure Kailua has lots of places, nothing was jumping out as open on this Tuesday morning and then we found this place.
We were warmly welcomed by someone whom I suspect was the owner, food was good and reasonably priced and I always like places that showcase local art so that was a plus. Recommended.
