We booked this luau while we were in port in Honolulu. Right off the "escorts" let us know we had to be photographed upon exiting the bus to identify which bus we arrived on and insure that we all caught the correct bus back. This was done completely under false pretenses as will be described later. The majority of the luau was extremely cheesy with bad jokes and lots of talking. The dancing and food were actually pretty good which would have earned 3 or 4 stars regardless of the cheesy jokes if not for further issues. The men's bathroom consisted of two troughs. I haven't had to use the restroom side by side with no dividers since Wrigley Field bleacher days. Finally, when we got back on the bus, they handed us the photos they took. Then, they got on the bus and stated the photos were $20, or you can give the photo back. Bad form Germaine's. Also the practice is potentially illegal based on the interpretation of the word sends in the attached legal summary. I would not recommend this tour.

After a long and tedious bus ride in rush hour traffic the luau was in an industrial area near the beach. The show was like a Branson, MO show, only instead of the Ozarks, on a Pacific beach. Lame, hayseed humor, prayers, pathetic audience participation, and really bad food... all for only $111 a person. They really need to update the whole operation. Quite a disappointment.

We booked this Luau several months prior to our trip because we expected it to sell out. Since we wanted to be close to the stage, we went with the Plumeria package, which guarantees you good seating and it also comes with 3 adult beverages, a picture and lei. We were pleased that they offered round trip transportation from Waikiki and our stop location was a short walk from our hotel. The bus was huge and comfortable and the ride to Kapolei was smooth and we arrived about 45 minutes after we departed. Upon arrival, you are greeted by friendly staff and you really feel that Aloha spirit. We were immediately placed in a line to have our photo taken and then taken to our table which was right by the stage. We had a very attentive server named Sammy who took good care of us. We partook in our free drinks and soon after were served our food. The food was all you can eat but we were pretty full after the 1st plate. We thought we had enough time to rest before asking for more food but that wasn't the case because the show starts shortly after. The show was amazing! We were quite impressed by all the performances and learning about the beautiful Polynesian culture. We were there for 2.5 hours and were then driven back to Waikiki after the show.

We travelled to Hawaii with our children (12 and 9) for two weeks, visiting both the Big Island and Oahu. We specifically chose Germaine’s luau based on representations that it was the “most authentic” luau experience. We were sorely disappointed. The show has a significant cheese factor- think “hey friends get some more drinks, and party with your new Hawaiian cousins,” as well as a bit of Magic Mike dancing during performances by the male dancers. The food was pathetic, served on cardboard cafeteria-style trays. We were corralled into line to get food, like cattle, short show, and corralled back out. Nothing felt authentic about it. Save your money.

We were disappointed with this Luau. If you want to get drunk and stupid it would be great but if you want a family appropriate luau go to the Polynesian Cultural Center and skip this one. We also purchased the original luau package (they tried multiple times to up sell us). We were last off the bus and last to go through the buffet line. They were out of many items of food and the quality was lacking by the time we went through the line.

In this time of covid, several of the local luaus are either closed or providing less of their original shows for the same price. Germaine's was great. Their waterfront location and laid-back atmosphere made this so much better than the stuffy luaus I have attended in the past. First of all, not a bad seat in the house. It's small and everyone has a great view. The food is brought to you and is surprisingly good. The service is friendly and attentive. The show is fun. Best of all, they had the lowest prices! You can't go wrong!

We were rather upset with this company as soon as we got on the bus the prices changed from our booking at the hotel. Big deal we got on line 10 minutes faster the cup for drinks sooooo small. Not worth paying extra for dancers were great enjoyed seeing that but do it again no way I thought it was a rip off. Don’t go save your money I gave it 3 stars for the dancers

I did a lot of research before booking a luau, as they tend to be expensive. I wasn't sure what to expect, because reviews are typically polarizing. My friend and I went with the original package (cheapest) at Germaine's, and it was a positive experience which I would recommend! A luau is a can't miss experience, particularly for a first time visitor to Hawaii, and Germaine's did not disappoint. It was in a serene setting by the water, the performers were engaging, and we had a good view from our table where we were able to mingle with other travelers. The food was just ok and the alcohol was below average. Though expensive, it was a fairly good value considering the meal and entertainment provided.

We went through Delta vacations and Aloha VIP tours to book the luau for three people (about $300). The location of the luau is odd. We arrived 20 minutes early but were told that the luau was canceled due to a power line problems (not the luau fault). No one contacted us before hand, it is about an hour drive from waikiki. The person waiting by the entrance told us that we could rebook for the next day, nope they were full.We only had a rental car for that Wednesday but we had nothing planned for the next three days so we were ok with rebooking for any of those days, nope full. We were told to get the refund we would have to called Delta vacations.
In summary they would not reschedule our luau, help us in any way, and did not tell us that it was canceled.

This was a Christmas trip for my 2 children and my 23 y/o daughter enjoyed it and I guess my 12 y/o son did as well but I'd been to a few luau's before. However, we could barely hear from the stage and I didn't like that when they called people to participate, those that weren't in the front section were never chosen. They put the food away quickly and made guests feel rushed. As soon as everyone was served, they started to shut things down. It's labeled as the best luau in Honolulu but I'm not so sure about that. I wasn't impressed with anything.

I am weighing up the advantages and disadvantages of the different packages. For the Plumeria you get front row reserved seating and for the Original package it's first come first served tables at the sides...but for the middle class, Hibiscus, it says they are 'reserved' seating...but how do you know if the reservation is near the front or right at the back? I don't want to pay $30+ to reserve a seat only to find we are further back than the cheapest option. The website doesn't make it clear how the reservations work...so can anyone explain how the seating reservations in Hibiscus work please so I can make an informed decision. Thank you.
Written 18 March 2018
Plumeria is front and center. Hibiscus surrounds the Plumeria level, some are near the front, but expanding out. The general seating is beyond that. We did general seating and still had a great view of the stage. We drove ourselves and got there early so we could pick the table we wanted in the general section. We actually ended up seeing most of the show from the deck at the bar. It was just more fun to stand and watch than sit at our table. I'm frugal, so I couldn't justify spending more money for a "better" view. I hope that helps!

Are you allowed to use a video recorder at the show...I want to record some clips from the experience for my YouTube channel, but wasn't sure if there was an extra charge to use a camcorder, or if this was permitted anyway. Many thanks.

Yes. Videos and flash photography are allowed.

My mother needs ADA assistance as she can’t walk very long distances. How much walking is there from the bus to the luau site? Should we bring her wheelchair?
Written 6 February 2018
Yes. Bring the chair. As Margaret just said it's not too long of a walk but the sand is difficult

Don't base your stay on luau shuttle stops. Odds are, if the shuttle doesn't stop at your hotel you'll be within walking distance to a stop. Ask your hotel concierge, they will better serve your question.

How far away are the non reserved seats? Are you able to see the show well enough?
Written 17 July 2015
We didn't have a problem seeing, the picnic tables as described above, are situated in such a way that most can see the show wherever they are seated. We purchased tickets from a vendor in Honolulu for $20/pp. including transportation from hotel in our case Pacific Beach In Honolulu. The catch is you have to attend a seminar ~ 1hr or less long. I recall only 1-couple purchasing property. After the seminar we went to a bank where we were given tickets to the Luau. The tickets would have been ~$40 each or more if purchased elsewhere. I do not recall name of vendor. Hope this helps you make an informed decision.

Should you book before you get to Hawaii, or can you book it once you get there?
Written 13 May 2015
You can book after your arrival, we were glad we did. After arrival we booked through a Vendor in Honolulu, as mentioned in my previous post. We attended the Luau the next day after purchasing the tickets at a discounted price, if you agreed to attend a seminar. Transportation to and from the Luau was included and we were picked up and dropped off at our hotel's main entrance. It cost more to book through the hotel's concierge service. We found it to be a good deal through the vendor @ $20/pp.
