Stopped here to kill some time but quickly realized what a gem this was .Not just a walk through exhibit place. Each presentation was expertly put together by the knowledgable staff who made it lively for each audience member. Came away understanding the life of the lobster & the lobsterman.

My husband and I enjoyed the lobster hatchery and the process of raising lobsters, you learn all about their live cycle and see thousands of baby lobsters at different stages of their lives. The female lobster carries the eggs inside for 9 to 12 months and then for another 9 to 12 months under her tail, that is the reason... More

The Oceanarium with lobster hatchery, lobster educational talk, discovery tank and marsh walk was $27 for my wife and I with our senior discount. The lobster educational talk by and old time Lobsterman was somewhat amusing and educational, but seemed to be off-the-cuff anecdotes with some real education mixed in. Not the greatest in the world. The lobster hatchery was... More

This exciting educational stop provides an insight into how lobster grow. A biologist carefully details the lobster growing needs and challenges. High bubbling tanks have hundreds of baby lobster. After the presentation you go to another area where local sea animals are on display and delightfully explained in regard to their importance within the food chain

Going to the Oceanarium on Mt Desert Isle was eye opening. Learning about the life cycle of Lobsters we all take for granted make me want to put them up for a medal. The presentation was fascinating. I won't spoil it here, but let it be said only ONE TENTH OF ONE PERCENT of all lobster eggs get to become... More

We took the tour and found it to be very informative. Not only do they educate the public, but they actively help maintain the supply of this delicacy by nurturing young lobsters and then releasing them into the bay to be caught-eventually for consumption. Very cool.

This is a tiny educational/research facility with very competent, knowledgeable and passionate volunteer "docents". Each docent/educator answered our sometimes complex questions about sea life, economics between countries vis a vis fishing boundaries, and the fact that lobsters could theoretically live forever was fascinating.
