A shopper's paradise, this bustling square near the theater district has everything from upscale department stores and boutiques to discount houses. After a $25-million facelift in 2002, the cosmopolitan hub boasts a huge amphitheater, granite pedestals on which street entertainers perform and a tree and flower-lined environment in which to enjoy an espresso or an elegant meal.

Even in the rain!

This square is made up of nice gardens and fountains as well as the shops and hotels. Do take a moment to wander through the green spaces on the way to the shops!

Much hype about Union Square. A large flat area covering an underground car park and a tower in the centre of the square. Surrounded by top end shops such as Maceys and Saks.

Great area to have break while you're shopping. Crowdy and you can enjoy looking at people. All shopping malls in direct in the Area.

It's not too special if you're not going shopping. Just a nice square. Its excellent for shopping. I've not seen a Macy or Victoria Secret this size!

Location is fab. Food is fab. Discusting pigeons are horrid. The staff do not even attempt to keep them away by clearing tables quickly so that the birds don't swoop down. Really spoilt my lunch. Tip ... Eat inside as these birds are full of disease.

This is such a great place to shop, eat and enjoy. The Macy's has almost an entire floor of SHOES!! Even if you can't afford to buy, have a look at Neiman Marcus and Saks. Go to the Rotunda in Neiman Marcus for a glass of wine if not for a meal. Kuleto's is right around the corner for some... More

A large square surrounded by high-end shopping and historic hotels. There is parking available underground at the square, a lot of areas just to sit and people watch. During Christmas they install an ice rink and an enormous tree. Just a great place to experience San Francisco.

For me, I orient myself by Union Square when walking around San Francisco. Normally I come to the city for trade shows at the Moscone Center. Union Square is where we head when we want to shop, relax, etc. If you are staying in a hotel that is close to Union Square you know you will be close to a... More

Visited over New Year period. Plenty of activities in Square including Ice Rink. Closed on New Years Eve was a bit disappointing.
