You can touch the history. An amazing experience especially if you find a veteran that explain you deeply the war situation.

If you are a member of the National Parks this is free to you. It is very historical and the guide was very knowledgable and we enjoyed this. It is good for a few hours.

This Pier afforded gorgeous views of the SF Bay, Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz and behind it the Ghirardelli sign, Transamerica bldg and Coit tower. The historical ships, beautifully restored, provide a tangible demonstration of the city's maritime history.

Great park/museum showcasing the history of maritime San Francisco. $5 for a day pass to walk through at least 4 historical ships/boats. The 'tall ship' and the ferry are amazing. A nice walking tour might take 2 hours.

Another place, like Fort Point, that is nice for a quick stop. Take a walk down the pier to the end and back, some really interesting ships and history.
