My wife didn't fancy the enclosed space so I visited solo , my height is 6'3" so thought I might struggle but it was fine. To see how submariners went about their daily life during WWII was nothing short of amazing. Take the tour slowly and soak up the atmosphere , awesome. The sleeping areas are so cramped it really... Easy access allows persons who are ambulatory to visit. However, one needs to be able to get through the several water type doors between compartments. The docents are typically former submariners and are very knowledgeable .

Curious to see inside a WWII era submarine. I am a big guy at 6'4" so it was a close fit for me which added to the experience. Spoke to a docent who was a submariner on similar subs. The docents on the sub and the Liberty Ship really add to the experience.

The sub sailors are a special breed. I was a surface Navy man and always respect the bubble heads. When you visit this WWII boat you see the conditions these men served under. Truly special that they keep this boat going for many generations to know what went on.

Visited on a whim because the Alcatraz tour was sold out and we had time to kill. Give yourself about 45 minutes to walk through and really take time to see every detail of this restored wartime submarine. It is quite a fascinating piece of history! If you've done the one in Pearl Harbor recently, you could skip this one... More

Great museum piece and good narrated tour. Atmospheric and gave a good perspective of how men went to war and fought in the Pacific. How anyone could fight and live in a claustrophobic tin can for weeks on end is awesome inspiring

We had a tour with Richard P. and enjoyed his knowledge of the sub and the restoration of it. He made it very interesting, with his many years restoring the sub.
