Good Fun and Great Contemporary Art
A wonderful modern art museum with a fascinating array of contemporary artist & exhibits. The current "Yayol Kusama Show" is deceptively simple, just 3 installations: 2 with interactive art (2 mins. allowed in each room) and the fabulous gigantic pumpkin tea pot (10 -12 Ft. long) and multi-lit walkway on the 6th floor. 3 Cafes': "Grace" full menu, 2nd floor "Steps Coffee Stop" & "Cafe 5" on the 5th floor are perfect for quick lunch or afternoon "break". Parking Garage: is on Minna Street a right turn off 3rd Street "just past the Museum's front entrance (on Minna go to "2nd garage entry").

Not just abstract or pop art
Beautiful building housing a variety of collections. Modern art isn’t my favorite but I thoroughly enjoyed my visit. The exhibits are thought-provoking and there is something for everyone here. The outdoor spaces offer a breath of fresh air and quiet. Large windows with seating offer a fun view of the city and photo opportunities. This museum is large and does not feel crowded so one can relax and immerse themselves in the art.

    Theres something for everyone
This is a terrific museum in a beautiful large, light, airy building. There is so much here of different styles and tastes that you can't fail to find exhibits that will hold your attention. Start from the top and work your way down. It worked for us. We were also impressed that they don't funnel you through the gift shop at the exit like so many places.

    SFMOMA is a SFMUST!
If you enjoy modern art museums, don't miss this one! The building is expansive and filled with natural light. The unexpectedly broad collection is fun, interesting and very well-curated. WIth only a few free hours, we weren't able to participate in any of the great programming on offer, or snack at the beautiful rooftop cafe, but we did make sure to swing by the wonderful museum store.

They have a new wing which is very large and provides a lot of new party space and display space. Unfortunately the design is not attractive. Come here for a special expo that you want to see. IMHO the permanent collection is forgettable, too full of pieces that are not well-made.

We spent three hours in the museum and still did not get to check out all the exhibits we wanted to see. The special exhibits were very good and the permanent collection was impressive. We liked how the elevator doors had descriptions of what was on each floor. Planning on going again when we are next in SF.

For $25 I wanted more. Impressive building outside, Large high ceilings inside giving most of the works more space than they deserve. Outdoor sculture garden only had 4 possibly 5 pieces, outside cafe. Best things was the large living wall.

The museum is super huge with 7 levels, so please leave plenty of time for the visit. I enjoy the museum because it not only offers a wide variety of arts (photography, sculpture, painting, etc) but also has cafes and places for you to sit down and have a rest. I really love the exhibition on the 3rd floor in which artists were inspired by COVID, great selection of work.

They were closed on a week day, leaving a crowd of people (many people were there looking as bewildered as I was) standing there. It doesn't make sense to not be open on a weekday. A lot of downtown museums do this and apparently they are losing a LOT of revenue, by the crowd assembled before me, willing and ready to go in.

Visited MOMA again after 2 years. Curation & layout of the art pieces are still well thought out. Current exhibition: Soft Power which wasn’t overly crowded. Definitely a must go!

This museum was great!!! The exhibition they had was the works of Nam June Paik the founder of video art, and it was fantastic to see. This museum has great works of Rothko, Lichtenstein, Frita Kahlo to Warhol to name a few. If you travel to SFO this is a MUST if you love modern arts.

The second floor gallery is free admission for anyone visiting in May 2023. This was a lovely surprise and gave us access to some fabulous art, including an early Jackson Pollock. A real treat and I’d recommend it to anyone visiting this month for a free morning out.
