It is hyped up to visit Fisherman's Wharf when in San Francisco. In reality it doesn't live up to the hype. It is pretty down market and is full if T shirt stores and cheap, tacky gift shops.

We loved Fisherman's Wharf the area just has this infectious carnival / side show vibe. With market style vendors selling souvenirs and clothes to restaurants, bars and cafes. Pier 39 is home to about 150 sea lions that sun themselves on the docks. They are extremely cute, noisy but mostly entertaining. They live on K dock. The rest of pier... More

We visited Fisherman's Wharf several times during our visit to San Francisco. Lots of shops, restaurants and many, many sea lions. You can buy any type of souvenir you like and delicious food. Although there are some food hawkers, we found Tommaso Risttorante and enjoyed wonderful dinner. Also had a fabulous sandwich at a sourdough restaurant next to the Fisherman's... More

If I had to rate Fisherman's Wharf solely on the tourist stores it would be on the level of 'poor'. But it's rated higher because of what is happening on the streets, of a number of restaurants like Scoma's or the Buena Vista Cafe and of Ghiradelli Square in the neighborhood. So, before you visit Fisherman's Wharf look on the... More

Arrived here after a walk up from Pier 1, there was a street musician playing and he was very good. Enjoyed listening whilst I took a rest. There are also lots of fresh seafood available here as you would expect.

Fisherman's Wharf did not meet expectations. From the hype we thought it might be like Darling Harbour in Sydney Australia. No, it was a poor man's version.

We came here on our first day in San Francisco. While there were many restaurants, I find that restaurants with hawkers are always very touristy. Turns out, the food was very mediocre and pricy. Great views though!!
