Was on the store today looking for jewellery, and had to use the LL womens rest room. It was shocking ! Went into about 8 before I got a useable one. And bumped into another lady doing the same. One had no door but a yellow cone on it with plastic on the seat . A few had no toilet paper , a couple had more toilet paper on the floor than on the wall and a couple had old urine stains on the seats ...I won't go into details. From what looks a lovely store front , we were totally shocked. That needs to be sorted ! Can't take photos in public toilets , therefore none posted

My Macy's S.F. Union Square experience was delightful. I came to purchase sunglasses and found a good deal. On top of it, the lady (Olga from Belarus, if I remember correctly) who assisted me was charming and helpful. She is a real treat to talk to, and she made my shopping experience enjoyable. And this is coming from a guy who does not like shopping. Macy's was able to ship my sunglasses home free of charge. Which I find very convenient because my luggage was running out of space. My sunglasses arrived 3 days after my purchase in excellent condition. We walked around the store after that, and it was clean and all the team members were professional and friendly.

In essence, this is just a very big department store. However, it's very well laid out with clean floors, polished displays and very attentive staff. In fact the staff were so attentive they were a little bit annoying as you only had to approach a display shelf before someone was agreeing with your every word and telling you how super great the item you are looking at is. Other than that, they have an incredibly wide range of items on display so you would be sure to find what you are looking for.

There used to be a whole building for the mens section, now it's down to a floor or two. Very little variety, and the clerks don't really seem to know the merchandise nor care. I was asked four times if I want to get the Macy's credit card, but wasn't asked anything about the shopping experience, nor the clothing.

This Macy's is the largest on the west coast, with over 7 floors of shopping, numerous restaurants, a wine bar and personal shoppers to help you with all you shopping needs.

There is a wine bar on the 3rd floor, a burger bar on the 6th floor and a Cheesecake Factory on the upper floors all 3 offer wonderful views of Union Square and the City Lights at night.

This Macy's is specific for women clothing with the male store across from it to the East.

I love shopping. I live in London and have shopped in many different countries, mainly in Europe. Macy's been one of my favourite American shops of all times. So when we (my husband and I) came to San Francisco just before Christmas 2017, we went to Macy's in Union square to have a look.
It's a very good shop and we would have stayed there longer but one of us needed a toilet. In the US, it's usually not a problem, there are a lot of them around, nice, clean and comfortable.
But not at Macy's! The state of the customer toilets was shocking: disgustingly dirty, run down, smelly, locks on the cabin doors broken. Also, the design of the doors is such that a door only covers the middle section of the cabin, which doesn't give you much privacy. We were shocked, and were unable to use it - too disgusting. When we tried the other Macy's store (for men) across the road, the toilets there were even worse.
So we had to leave and didn not return. What a shame. I don't know what's going on with Macy's but I can only interpret the state of their toilets as a sign of utter disrespect for their customers.

So excited, Holiday Lane is open and the decorations are beautiful. For all of you wondering, yes, it’s a stop to make. Lots of new and old fashioned decorations. No didn’t visit the rest of the store, as my main purpose was the Christmas area.

If you like buying online, Macy’s always has lots of clothing, shoes, etc. on sale at their website, and if you live nearby you can opt for store pickup to avoid delivery charges. At Macy’s Union Square the item pickup area is just inside the entrance. This lets me feel comfortable buying clothing and shoes in multiple sizes when I’m not sure, then try them on when I pick them up, and immediately return what I don’t want to keep to the counter for a refund. I am glad Macy’s is still around in SF and offers seamless online/pickup service as well as great in-person shopping. Oh, and the item pickup staff are pleasant, and accommodating about the try-ons.

I’d like to start by saying that we visit the USA every year and Macy’s is my favourite department store - on top of that, this was our third visit in 5 years to San Francisco just before Christmas and the Union Square store is my No. 1 place to shop, I love it!

What’s not to love, from the dedicated lift that goes straight to the Cheesecake Factory with a terrace opposite Tiffany, to the Holiday Lane on the 7th floor where I’m always excited to see the displays and I stock up on all my decorations to take home to the UK. I even have a routine of going to the ground floor, buying a new suitcase and then putting all my new purchases inside!

But always, at the top of the list, is the customer service,it’s an actual joy to be helped by the staff. They care, are attentive, give you advice and information, genuinely, I can’t gush enough about them and it’s a shame the UK has not idea how to replicate this.

However, this time, it was not such an amazing experience........

I visited 5 departments and the level of service was wildly different. From inexperienced uninformed cashiers (I don’t know the code for your discount, I can’t ring that up, my till doesn’t work properly), to bad time management/upselling (selling store cards/accounts which takes 20minutes and puts a till out of use, over hearing the cashier telling a person opening an account what annual salary they should put to get accepted, this is fraud in the UK) to finally what can only be described as bullying between staff!

The very helpful lady trying to serve the slowly growing queue in holiday lane was struggling with the lady in front of me as her card needed to be authorised which involves a lengthy phone call. So I waited patiently. Then, boxes were required but she couldn’t leave the queue. Along came 2 younger assistants with clearly nothing to do but chat amongst themselves, the cashier asked for some help, ‘go do it yourself’ came the response. She explained again to another negative response. When she asked where a manger was to support, the short reply was that all managers were in a meeting just the other side of a partition and ironically, at that point, you heard them all clapping and congratulating themselves!

In the end, I helped to lady wrap and ring up everything as she looked close to tears!

With no name badges, I can’t name and shame, there was a great guy in the men’s department and a very helpful lady in the China department (where I had to go to buy my suitcase!).

Whatever is going on in that store, the managers need to be aware at grass roots and fix it before it gets worse.
