We Take Our Visitors Here
Sep 2021
Whenever we have visitors from out-of-town, we take them here on our city tour, including Chinatown and Coit Tower. The slow walk down the steps is a revelation of the cute houses plus the great views of the Bay. Imagine living here!

Need some upkeep
Aug 2021
I could definitely see where the greenery and full bloom would make this long staircase almost heavenly, but that was sadly not the case when we went. The gardens definitely needed some tender love and care and it looked like some people were working on it as we walked through. Still nice to walk down all those stairs from Coit tower, but I'd love to come back when the gardens are more lush.

Whimsical adventure
Aug 2021 • Family
We had a remaining afternoon to explore San Francisco and on a whim, decided to climb the stairs to reach Coit Tower. Simply loved the unplanned adventure.

Loved it that it’s not run-of-the-mill type of tourist things to do. Loved the abundance of flora as we walked up the steps. Loved to imagine the folks living in the cottages by the steps. Loved the idea that someone (a lady by the name of Grace Marchant) loved San Francisco so much that she dedicated her energy to creating these steps. Loved the views of the bay from various levels.

It was a challenge physically for some of us, but as there was no hurry, we could take the time to rest between levels, enjoy and reflect.

From Coit Tower, we walked down Telegraph Hill, passed Lombard Street (we could see the crookedest stretch from afar), caught the cable car at Columbus (Little Italy) to bring us back to Union Square.

Here come the high stepper
Jul 2021
I love starting at the veeery bottom of the steps (Sansome) and walking allll the way to the tower and back down again. It's a fantastic workout. It takes me about 10 minutes and that'll earn me the whole rest of the day off.

A beautiful way to get a workout
Jun 2021 • Couples
We were walking along the waterfront and wanted to visit Coit Tower. We had heard about the steps and thought we would take them up. With the help of directions from our phone we were able to find the stairs a couple of blocks away from the Embracodero (?). It was a very neat experience climbing winding stairs up through lush shady gardens, almost feeling as if we were walking through peoples back yards. Interesting plants and sculptures at every turn. About 2/3 of the way up you come to a street that gives you views out to the bay…a beautiful spot to catch your breath. A few more flights and you are at the base of the tower.

We went down the stairs after visiting Coit Tower. The views were amazing. The houses on the route are also really nice. This is nice experience.

Amazing experience! I loved watching the wild parrots fly overhead. We also saw a bunch of plants of all kinds, if you’re a nature lover you’d love this little oasis in the middle of the city! We went down the steps from coit tower, I’d definitely recommend walking down them rather than up lol. There are a bunch of stairs!

Stretch Your Legs First!
Feb 2020
This is definitely a uniquely SF experience. I climbed the stairs with my wife - even took up some grocery bags for a local resident. When I made it to the top, I was pretty sure my lungs were in complete shutdown mode. That said, I would definitely do it again.

Classic walk
Aug 2020
One of our favorite walks goes through Chinatown and North Beach, up to Coit Tower and down the Filbert Steps to Levi Plaza. There used to be lots of colorful parrots up there, but we haven't seen any recently.

I Bring All My Visitors Here
Feb 2020
This is one of my favorite features of San Francisco and I bring friends here. Start at the top by Coit Tower and walk down admiring the splendid views of the Bay and the great quirky architecture. You might see a parrot or two. You end up at the lovely Levi Plaza which is a nice green space amidst the office buildings.
