What an excellent and informative tour of San Francisco's Chinatown. Stories about how, when, who built and protects this area. Also got to do a tea tasting - who knew there were so many kinds of tea with taste and character differences.

Amazing, a tour for all ages. Julia is a fantastic wealth of knowledge. If you are interested learning about the history/ cultural and workings of China town take this tour. We had our twelve and fourteen year old with us and they had a great time. We saw and learned so much in the couple of hours. A great learning... More

The tour surpassed my expectations in all respects. Julia, our tour guide, is incredibly passionate about Asian studies and has a MS in this field. I would listen to her all day long! The tour was fun and very informative at the same time. I highly recommend it. It's one of the best walking tours I took in San Francisco.

Our tour today was great with guide Julia! She is very knowledgeable about the history of Chinese-Americans in San Francisco, particularly regarding social justice. The tea tasting, herbal store, temple visit, and fortune cookie factory were a nice addition as well. I highly recommend this tour!

Our tour guide Julia was incredibly well versed in the history of Chinatown and the history of the Chinese who inhabit the area. She has a passion for the Chinese people and their culture. She is also a lot of fun! Julia tailored the tour to her audience and went above and beyond showing us the sites she thought would... More

What a wonderful surprise and a highlight of our San Francisco visit. History, architecture, politics, local life all in an afternoon. We strolled with our guide who brought Chinatown to life with stories of the immigrants who lived there.

This is one of the best walking tours I have ever taken anywhere--and I am a 3rd generation San Franciscan who thought I "knew" Chinatown! We took our friends from Cleveland and we all so appreciated learning the history and current situation in Chinatown through our guide Darin who told personal stories entertwined with his incredible knowledge and love for... We took the walking tour on a wet Friday afternoon and it was the best part of our day. Our docent, Julia, was amazingly well informed and very enthusiastic about the history and social justice aspects of China Town. The tour was a little over 2 hours and was worth every penny. We were part of a very small group... More

I really enjoyed this tour…… From the very beginning the Chinese Culture Center staff was so very kind and welcoming. The guide for this tour, a fifth generation Chinese American, was very engaging and extremely knowledgeable about trials and tribulation that happened throughout the centuries with development of Chinatown. I have been a neighbor of Chinatown since the seventies and... More

I ended being the only visitor this morning & had a great private tour with Julia. Even though I have lived in the Bay Area for many years, have walked SF Chinatown many times, and had previously taken a commercial Chinatown walking tour, I learned so much more on this tour. Julia's knowledge of local and general Chinese-American history, the... More

Staying in Financial District

Neighbourhood Profile
Financial District
The Financial District lies just east of Chinatown but can seem a world apart given it’s San Francisco’s version of Wall Street. The rush of business people make up a hectic weekday and add to a frenetic pace of life, but visitors who spend a few hours walking the narrow streets will be rewarded with fine examples of historic and contemporary architecture, including the iconic Transamerica Pyramid. After business hours, bars and restaurants quickly fill up with happy hour revelers. Stocks aren’t the only kind of market being followed, the Ferry Building Marketplace on the Embarcadero is a gourmet food emporium and farmers market that will satisfy anyone working up an appetite.
