This latest impression based on a Mahler 3rd under Tilson Thomas a few days ago. The hall has quite good dynamic range, the loudest passages of this work of extreme dynamic range did not overload the hall. Many times I could wish for quieter playing,...More

After the remodel some years ago this symphony hall is one of the best in the US from both the acoustics standpoint and the feeling of intimacy despite holding almost three thousand people. We recently heard Tchaikovsky’s violin concerto and everything was perfect. Seats are...More

Civic Center
Civic Center is the seat of power for all things
government and performance-related in the city.
Although its streets are best walked during daytime,
numerous cultural gems are within close proximity to
one another. The symphony, opera, ballet, and jazz
center offer year round entertainment within the
shadow of the city’s Beaux-Arts crown jewel: the gold
tipped dome of City Hall.
