Looks great

I was there recently for a chess meet up and was surprised how good it looked like. A great place to just hand around and read.

SFPL offers what most large municipal libraries do, and if one needs the resources of a public library, this one is well suited to deliver them. Its Book Arts & Special Collections, however, provide something more unique and intriguing. If visiting SF as a traveler or playing tourist in your home city, check out the Book Arts & Special Collections... More

A fabulous building with a great collection, incl. special collections and ebook lending. Any Californian can request a library card which also provides access to many by subscription only services, such as Consumer Reports and SF Chronicle (historical as well), you can get for free through the library. Also offering lots of community services and events. Great location right next... More

Lotsa books, dvd's, music, you name it. 4 floors with all kinds of good people there to help just by asking. A gem in the heart of the city.

Aargh. This building was badly designed from the start. What was IM Pei thinking with a confusing lobby below street level and multiple entrances, and an open atrium that distributes noise throughout the floors! The location makes it a hive for the unkempt and unhygienic. As an institution, I support SFPL. As a place to read books, I avoid the... More

This library has everything! There's so many different areas and levels. Lot of services and things to do. Even the rooftop area is a must see.

The SF Public Library is a great place for taking your young child to learn and play. The only problem is the outside area. There are quite a few homeless and "loiterers," but once you're inside, it is really great. The children's room is fun and often filled with young kids for the daily readings. It is a great place... Staying in Civic Center

Neighbourhood Profile
Civic Center
Civic Center is the seat of power for all things government and performance-related in the city. Although its streets are best walked during daytime, numerous cultural gems are within close proximity to one another. The symphony, opera, ballet, and jazz center offer year round entertainment within the shadow of the city’s Beaux-Arts crown jewel: the gold tipped dome of City Hall.
