While this library is nice and large, it's not in the best of areas. For me, it's close to work and I can pop in and out and grab what I need. It's multi level so be sure to ask for some help or do some prior research to help locate what you are looking for.

One of the most diverse and comprehensive LibRARY's I have been to. Check out the adjunct rooms . Check to see if there is an exposition going on when you plan to visit. Do check out the James Hormel LBGTQ room. Public transportation is definitely recommended! Save the books! and support our LibRARY's

A great libary except for all the homeless hanging out and sleeping. It's hard to enjoy a comic book because of the smell

The cafeteria in the basement has good, if slightly pricey and limited menu, with seating. There are ongoing rotating exhibits on the top floor. Lots of seating in different areas around the library, and there are numerous computer banks.

It's a beautiful library but there's a lot of homeless people lurking around. It's big and a nice place to explore, lot of things are out because its' popular.

I was there recently for a chess meet up and was surprised how good it looked like. A great place to just hand around and read.

SFPL offers what most large municipal libraries do, and if one needs the resources of a public library, this one is well suited to deliver them. Its Book Arts & Special Collections, however, provide something more unique and intriguing. If visiting SF as a traveler or playing tourist in your home city, check out the Book Arts & Special Collections... More

Staying in Civic Center

Neighbourhood Profile
Civic Center
Civic Center is the seat of power for all things government and performance-related in the city. Although its streets are best walked during daytime, numerous cultural gems are within close proximity to one another. The symphony, opera, ballet, and jazz center offer year round entertainment within the shadow of the city’s Beaux-Arts crown jewel: the gold tipped dome of City Hall.
