From a San Franciscan that's been here a half dozen times. This is a dirty tourist trap with a good selection of beer on top but literally nothing else going for it. The staff are a bunch of racist, sexist trolls that delight in pissing off customers because you don't look or talk like they want you to. There's so... More

A local introduced me to Toronado and that's probably on oft repeated story. When in the Haight and you're thirsty I do advise a pit stop here. First, bring cash. It's the only payment they take. Second, be prepared for busy and slightly gruff bartenders. Third, crane your neck upwards as you enter to take stock of the wide range... More

I got it from the first sight of a "cash only" sign. Really? Minimal beer menu of forgettable brands. No beer for you! If this spot builds its reputation for rude bartenders, then they need to spend money on acting classes. That or spend time in a Boston or NYC local bar and LEARN!!! Underdone. Overpriced mediocre brews. No Oskar... More

Yes...it is a dive...and that is a good thing. Bartender was gruff. Regulars were friendly. Beer menu was vast and very good. And they appear to always have some Pliney on tap and in the bottle so that was much appreciated for this East Coast traveler. A craft beer lovers must visit spot. And if you need something to eat... I visited many, many years ago and felt way overdue for a return visit. How can you not love a place that has cheap beer on tap and they allow you to bring in food from the outside! They do have bottled beer, but the main attraction is their large selection of beers on tap. The bartender took the time... More

We made a point of visiting Toronado before heading to SFO for our flight out of the city because they have Pliny the Elder on tap. Living in Texas means that this renowned beer is largely unavailable to us, so getting to try it on tap was a lot of fun. The beer tasted fresh and the vibe was great... More

The place is a dive but the beer selection is incredible. They have Pliny so that helps. It isn't fancy and they only take cash but if you like beer, you MUST visit.

I love Toronado, the atmosphere, the decor and of course the beer selection. The barman was really helpful and gave us tasters of his favourite beers. A great place to spend an afternoon/early evening/night.

The server was rude before I even spoke a word and I witnessed the him getting surly with another customer, someone with an accent, perhaps a tourist, who offended by asking a question about the beer on tap. It wasn't crowded. They staff was not especially busy. I learned later that this place deliberately cultivates a reputation for bad service.... More

If you like beer and you know what you like, this is the place for you. If you don't know the difference between a lager and a double IPA move along. This is a temple for the devout, an altar to the Gods of Ale, a cash only watering hole for the worthy, only the finest brews shall pour from... More

Staying in Haight-Ashbury

Neighbourhood Profile
The area surrounding the intersection of Haight and Ashbury streets, “The Haight” still exudes vibes of the 1960s counterculture as a haven for vintage clothes, music, pop posters and body piercing shops. While the Summer of Love ended decades ago, Haight-Ashbury has turned into a melting pot of hippies, hipsters, and professionals. Walking through its streets can still feel like stepping back in time. A must-see neighbourhood for most music fans, it’s easy to see why these streets attracted the likes of the Grateful Dead and Janis Joplin. You’ll likely be content in The Haight day or night, just be sure to wear some flowers in your hair.
