I live in San Francisco and attend the opera frequently. The house itself is truly a beautiful, glorious building having been carefully restored to its original 1932 glory after the 1989 earthquake. The handicap access, restrooms, and general access have improved greatly. Two things of...More

I use to do the Operas as a actor back in 2000 and 2001 . I needed this opera House in my life back then as a place where I could escape to . I got away from my negative job as a limo driver...More

The opera house is simply beautiful. We saw the SF Ballet Nutcracker performance here in December and what a treat. The architecture and detail in the interior is stunning. So much detail and so many features to take in. The venue is spacious and a...More

Beautiful building. Staff was helpful and friendly. Sets were amazing. Closed out the evening with Christmas music. They let people in after the production had begun. This was distracting. Gift shop had wonderful souvenirs.

We went there this evening to see the Nutcracker performed by the SFBallet team and it was spectacular. The auditorium at war memorial is awesome with fantastic sound system regardless of where and what level you happened to sit. There are ample parking garages near...More

What a beautiful old hall, redone a few decades ago. Very special to be there and see a performance. The only problem is that the incline is not as great as in many newer halls - making it easier to get around, harder to see...More

An attractive facade with lovely Beaux-Arts and Classical features was our first glimpse of this fine building. We were delighted to attend a great opera performance during our visit. The auditorium is highly decorative and has outstanding acoustics, perfect for the world class presentations. It...More

This was our first visit to this beautiful venue. We had won a bid at a fund raiser to attend and watch a performance of Tosca. We were given seats about mid-way back in the Orchestra section and could see and hear very well. It...More

Attended a superb performance of Tosca--the performance was stellar but the Opera House itself was a strong feature by itself. What an outstanding jewel of a facility you folks in San Francisco have. This is miles ahead of the Blaisdell Concert Hall we have in...More

This is where the Opera performs, as well as the venue for the Ballet. The seats are not always comfortable and the temperature can be stuffy, leading to massive sleeping through performances.

Civic Center
Civic Center is the seat of power for all things
government and performance-related in the city.
Although its streets are best walked during daytime,
numerous cultural gems are within close proximity to
one another. The symphony, opera, ballet, and jazz
center offer year round entertainment within the
shadow of the city’s Beaux-Arts crown jewel: the gold
tipped dome of City Hall.

Row D will be very close to the stage. You'll be looking up a bit. Row O will be back further and look more straight onto the stage. Hope that helps.

That I don't know. In the group I signed up for, there were between 10 and 15 people, if I remember right. If you want to pursue it further, you may search for SFOpera backstage tours
