My son and I had a short layover in San Fransisco, and decided to visit the War Memorial Opera House, not for the opera, but for it's UN related history and WW1 memorial. We took a BART train from the San Fransisco Airport to the...More

I hate opera but I love this building. It is so dope looking and it is a reminder of how the city used to be.

The box seats are individual padded chairs with a lot more padding than the seats in the orchestra section (where I even once took an inflatable cushion). However, there are three rows, on tiers which are about 7 to 8 inches higher than the row...More

Ive been to the Opera house several times, but this time was special because it was my 16 yr old daughters first time seeing a ballet. We saw Swan Lake. I feel that any section of the opera house is wonderful spot. Ive been in...More

"What to wear to the Opera?" is usually what a woman first thinks to herself after she decides to go. Well, I saw women in gorgeous gowns and others in work attire. This is the place to showcase any couture in your closet dying to...More

We had a free night and decided to go. I am not a ballet fan and prefer Broadway, but Hamilton tickets were through the roof. My wife enjoys ballet so off we went. This performance is amazing with unique stage effects, engaging characters and a...More

It's a big fine arts theater with some grand decorations. Unfortunately the seating is not comfortable, especially in the upper reaches and the A/C often doesn't reach upstairs, so be prepared to fall asleep.

This is where the San Francisco ballet perform each winter through spring, and it's a lovely place to enjoy a ballet. For ballet, try for the box seats. Side ones are restricted view but a good deal. Box seats are regular chairs that are not...More

My mom, sister and myself took my young daughter to San Francisco in December to see the Nutcracker ballet. She is 6 years old and absolutely loved it. She was literally on the edge of her seat and clapping loudly when it was time to...More

I read all the bad reviews of the Opera but it was my first time ever and I loved it! This review is about the Opera house and not MB! My sis and I went to the city just for my birthday and to see...More

Civic Center
Civic Center is the seat of power for all things
government and performance-related in the city.
Although its streets are best walked during daytime,
numerous cultural gems are within close proximity to
one another. The symphony, opera, ballet, and jazz
center offer year round entertainment within the
shadow of the city’s Beaux-Arts crown jewel: the gold
tipped dome of City Hall.

Row D will be very close to the stage. You'll be looking up a bit. Row O will be back further and look more straight onto the stage. Hope that helps.

That I don't know. In the group I signed up for, there were between 10 and 15 people, if I remember right. If you want to pursue it further, you may search for SFOpera backstage tours
