My wife and I went there as part of a North Beach/Little Italy walking tour through "Local Tastes of the City Tours", (which we also gave 5+ Stars, Blondina the tour guide is AMAZING!) During the tour we stopped in front of this wonderful shop, Macchiarini's. Daniel Macchiarini was just opening up, and graciously invited us all in for a tour of his amazing shop. Not only is this a hand crafted jewelry shop, but they have their own foundry and workshop in the rear of the store which you can take a guided tour of, and if you're lucky enough, to see one of the many artist crafting a one-of-a-kind object of art! After looking through the amazing jewelry for sale, I selected a fantastic, large, mens "Spot" ring, which is a rare, exquisite, one of a kind piece which is composed of mixed metals in a large dome design. It included: brass, Sterling Silver, and any other number of metals! I actually hate to share this part, however, once we returned home a good friend of mine took one look at my ring and offered me twice what I paid in the shop! Last but not least, (sorry Gents, Lol) they also custom make original, one of a kind Wedding sets, to your specific design!!! This 3rd generation business is such an heirloom shoppe, it's so rare in this day and age. They even offer classes for Jewelry maker's, it's like it's own Guild of Jewel Makers! Make this part of your stop for sure, you won't be sorry! Cheers! Cal …

The oldest metal works in the U.S. is a very interesting place to visit. Peter is deceased, but his daughter is on the premises & is very friendly. The metal jewelry by various artists, including Peter's granddaughter, is quite good and unusual. At Burning Man, since nothing is left behind, they have an apparatus that melts the discarded metal from beer cans, etc. from which they will make coins. Go there & learn all about it. You can even make a coin in the back of the store. …

The best of North Beach can be starting at the corner of Broadway and Columbus, and moving up Grant St. As Grant settle down to a near level, at it's flat end, across from the Savoy Tivoli bar is a humble window showcasing Daniel Macciarini's unique Jewelry and metal designs. I have just purchased one of Daniel's rings this week, which I have coveted for almost twenty years! If you want to find something of real history and individual style, go and check this second generation business out. The shop was a center for a wide community of artists and iconoclasts who, along with customers, constantly came in to discuss art, sometimes buying, but always intellectualizing about modernism and art in general. What was extraordinary was that in the two days that have followed, how many people recognized my ring as that of Macchiarini's, and how they knew of Daniel and his father, Peter, who created the business at the same location. The work is created right there, and Daniel will give you a historical tour of the workshop and pieces there. Thanks for reading, and check this place out! -----…
