This walkabout tour is laid-back, informative, and fun. Kathy is very warm, knowledgeable, and a joy to be around. I would recommend this to anyone interested in learning a bit more about gay SF! Note: there is a lot of sexual content on the tour, so it may not be suitable for children.

Cathy is an amazing wealth of history and local knowledge on the Castro and some of the events and people which formed this unique neighborhood. In searching for things to do in San Francisco I was surprised at the lack of LGBT focused activities. Cathy fills this void well! As she walks you around the neighborhood you'll learn lots of... It's important to make up for the lack of our LGBTQ history taught in public school curriculums. It feels good to walk through this historic neighborhood and honor those LGBTQ heroes who paved the way.

I had Kathy as the guide to The Castro. It was amazing to have Kathy as someone who lived there for many years, show me around. Everywhere we went, people would say hi to us, and you get a real good sense of the community, and how connected Kathy is to the people living there. I had a wonderful chat... More

I can't say enough good things about this tour and the wonderful afternoon spent with Kathy and the rest of my fellow tourists. Kathy welcomes everyone as an old friend. You learn so much about the Castro on this tour and you leave it a better educated and well informed person. Do yourself a favor and book this tour.

The tour guide, Kathy, gave us a great deal of interesting information, but kept the tour casual and was very open to answering our questions. It rained the entire day, but the tour was still excellent. It starts at the Harvey Milk Plaza and ends at his old camera shop, which is now the local chapter of the Human Rights... More

Staying in The Castro

Neighbourhood Profile
The Castro
A flourishing commercial area that acts as San Francisco's LGBT community center and cultural heart, the Castro is a neighbourhood welcome to everyone. As one of the first predominantly LGBT neighbourhoods in the United States and currently its largest, it remains one of the epicenters of activism in the nation. Grand theatres and glitzy shops now compete with bars and fashionable eateries for attention, drawing visitors from around the world to the bright rainbow flag acting as its beacon.
