Not easy to find
Jul 2018
Went here to check out what we could do for the 1 full day we had in San Fran. We saw the i sign to say the info centre was here but it took us a while to work out it was BELOW street level. The info centre did not open until 9.am either which makes it quite a late start for a tourist to begin to work out what to do for the day. Staff were only somewhat helpful when we finally got to the counter. Ended up on the hop on hop off bus which is a great start in any city to see the main sites.

San Francisco Visitor Center
Nov 2018 • Solo
The volunteer who greeted me at the door was a smiling and friendly face! She asked me what I wanted to see & do & how much time I had there. She provided me with a free map & circled my hotel & all the places I wanted to see.
There was a large selection of printed brochures, maps & coupons available as well.
This was my first stop after arriving based on another reviewer’s recommendation & it was a wise recommendation!

Good friendly service

You can get a lot of information there, even detailed about special things. You can also buy public transport tickets there and get free maps. It is a good idea to start and plan your San Francisco visit here.

About a month before my trip to San Francisco, I had emailed this office. It was prompt and provided good answers to my typical tourist questions.

I can't see paying $5.70 for a city map
Apr 2018 • Couples
Every other city in the USA is more than willing to mail you a city map. Why is SF charging so much? I could see a dollar or 2 to cover mailing, but not this outrageous amount

Great info here!

The BART drops off real close to the information center so it was easy to stop in and get loaded with information. Staff was courteous and helpful and steered us towards buying a muni bus pass for our stay which was an excellent suggestion. Lots of information and maps to found here, just what you need for a week stay.

Crabby Volunteer Messed It Up
Aug 2017
Oh, I wish I could remember her name, but I did see she was a 'volunteer' who clearly should be DONE with that self assignment. I expect warm and welcoming and even multi lingual friendly service at a visitor info center. Hahaha. Nothing of the sort here. ( I'm sure most people have a great experience and I hope someone can identify the middle aged women who didn't help me.) There is plenty of literature and you can wait in line for assistance and book some tours here. It's a central location with access to public transport and the primary cable car line right around the corner. Visit at your own risk :)

Muni Pass is the way to go
Jun 2017 • Friends
My friend and I both purchased a 7 day Muni pass which was well worth it. We used it multiple times/day to take a bus or street car to and from points of interest. The AAA book says that it is $25 for 65 and over but that is incorrect. We were charged $35 but it was well worth it. The visitor center is near the corner of Mason St and Market. Look for a stairway or an escalator which will take you down one level from street level.

Just What We Needed
May 2017 • Friends
Helpful staff. One desk for information, then over to the cashier to buy Passports for city transit and a few souvenirs. The MUNI system is a great way to get around. If, like me, you didn't do your research before arriving in SF, this should be your first stop.
