Everywhere we went was dirty, people laying in the streets passed out. A dude walked out on the street and vomited next to us. We went into a Chinese Market that smelled hideous...and this really happened - frogs went hopping by, and a mangy dog in the Chinese Market walked over and sniffed the frog. At this point we decided to call it a day and we left the tour before we went to lunch. This is a tour for people with stronger stomachs than us.

I found the guide very well informed and even though I live in the Bay Area and have gone other tours of Chinatown over 40 years i feel like I learned more than on the other tours. I learned more about the history of Chinatown and the people who migrated there. I also learned more of the culture. The information was presented in a manner that kept not only my 14 year old grandson interested but also his 80 year old grandmother. The tea tasting was very interesting as well as all the other places where we ate.

Rick is an excellent guide and takes you to the "off beaten path" of Chinatown. Definitely recommend if you are a lover of history and enjoy learning about culture. One of the highlights of our trip. Wear your walking shoes--easy walking but lots of it.

This is a great tour with so many interesting facts. You really need to do this tour early in your trip. We did it on our last day straight after Rick's architecture tour and found out about things we would love to have followed up on (herbalist and the live markets on Stockton) but had no chance. Rick gives you the full rundown on all the stuff you want to know that you didn't know you wanted to know about. Treat yourself, do it first day, and take advantage of Rick's knowledge. It should be noted that you don't spend all your time on the main street that is all most people get to see. Rick takes you around and shows you the real Chinatown.

We have been on his Arch. Walking Tour, which was fabulous, and now just this afternoon went on his Chinatown walking tour. It was even more interesting, if that is possible. It was a small intimate group of 7. We lived in the city years ago and thought we knew it. Rick is obviously passionate about SF and it's fascinating history. He made it come alive for us. This is a not to be missed tour whether you are a SF native or visitor.
