A great place to go and get your rocks off or your yayas on, especially if you are of the homosexual persuasion.

We were in SF for several days and visited a lot of the city. Castro is known mostly for its LGBT community and its certainly unashamedly 'full on' in that respect in parts. We visited the bar for a quick drink one lunchtime. It had a good range of beers and other drinks. The place was busy but not uncomfortably... More

The open window in the downstairs toilet shares an alley with the cookie bake shop next door, hence the review title. But there is no lock on the door and there is frequently a line, so probably not a place to linger. ;-) Besides that, it is HISTORIC - as one of the first gay bars ever to have windows.... More

Always call in here when in San Francisco, frendly bar with great service but you must engage in conversation with the staff otherwise they will let you be, predominantly an older gay clientele and a very comfortable atmosphere, you do not have to be gay to enjoy this bar. Nice smell of hot cookies in the toilets probably the best... More

Laid back atmosphere, nice staff, excellent cocktails. This would be an OK bar if it were not perfectly situated on the corner of The Castro making it a phenomenal people watching position.

Great little spot to stop in. We stayed just off Market Street and cool 50's style Tram which cost $2.25 took us to corner of 17th and Castro right outside Twin Peaks - barman Daniel super friendly and mixed some great Martini's. Thanks Daniel x

We arrived at this bar at approx. 3pm, intending to have a quick cocktail and continue our walk around Castro. That was not to be. After chatting with a lovely lady at the bar, our round of drinks were bought for us and we were taken under the wing of a wonderful group of kindly locals - all wanting to... More

While the atmosphere and décor are nice, it's not particularly unique or hard to find and the service was such that I would never ever go back. It's a cash only bar, which the bartender forgot to inform us until after he poured our drinks. My friend asked where she could find an ATM, which the bartender rudely refused to... More

Perfect location, very civilized, so pleased to be here. A mature crowd, no drama. This tavern makes you feel welcomed and you know you'll swing in again.

Staying in The Castro

Neighbourhood Profile
The Castro
A flourishing commercial area that acts as San Francisco's LGBT community center and cultural heart, the Castro is a neighbourhood welcome to everyone. As one of the first predominantly LGBT neighbourhoods in the United States and currently its largest, it remains one of the epicenters of activism in the nation. Grand theatres and glitzy shops now compete with bars and fashionable eateries for attention, drawing visitors from around the world to the bright rainbow flag acting as its beacon.
