Champagne Before Dinner
Feb 2020
Champagne Before Dinner

In February, we had early reservations at La Folie, but arrived before they opened. However, as we have done that several times before, we knew to just go next door to La Folie Lounge, and have a glass, or two of Champagne, before we could be seated in the adjacent restaurant, and that is exactly what we did.

I really did not need the wine list, as I had my mind made up, and ordered the Lanson Brut Rosé for both of us. I let the server know that we had reservations in the restaurant, and we were notified when they opened, and when our table was ready - very nice! We also took the Champagne with us, to start our evening of dining.

I could not have asked for more, or better service, and in a lovely little bistro-like venue. La Folie Lounge is great, and I will need to stop in to explore more of its menu, and the entire wine list, when not heading immediately next door for dinner

A Great Place to Wait for La Folie to Open
Apr 2017 • Couples
We have been dining at La Folie on Polk Street or many years, as it is one of our favorite restaurants in the city, and at the top of our “Favorite French Restaurants” in the USA. Usually, we arrived early, and just hung out on Polk St, windowshopping, until they opened the doors. One day, we noticed (for the first time) La Folie Lounge, next door, which was open. Had it been there all along? Had we just never noticed it? Had it recently opened? I am not sure, but it has become a mainstay of our La Folie dining experience – a nice venue for a glass of “bubbles,” before the restaurant next door opens for the evening. On this April afternoon, we headed to La Folie Lounge, for some of those bubbles.

The lounge is framed by a bar in the rear, with stools, and then several small tables in a dining area, extending from the bar, to the windows out to Polk St. We grabbed a little bistro table, and the wine list.

As it had been a tough day of meetings for my wife, I ordered the Lanson Brut Rosé for her, and the Schramsberg Blanc de Noir California “sparkler” for myself – I felt that she needed the extra “heft” of the Rosé.

Service, as always, was very friendly and efficient. Our bubbles arrived, and we sat back to watch the folk on Polk St, and in the Lounge, which was filling up a bit. One thing that I had not noticed on previous visits, was that there was a food menu for the Lounge, as well. We had only used it for a place to await the restaurant’s opening – just as we did this afternoon. We need to explore the food next time, but as we normally stay in SoMa, or Union Square, are on this section of Polk St. to dine at La Folie, the restaurant.

With our flutes empty, and the time of our reservations upon us, we bid farewell to La Folie Lounge – until next time. A great place for a few glasses of wine!

Wonderful place for snacks and drinks!
Jan 2016 • Couples
We went twice over four days in San Francisco. Given the number of places we could have gone, this is quite a tribute. This is a small lounge with a reall cool vibe. The service was great! Yeah, the drinks are expensive but the food (snacks, for the MOST part) are cheap. Love the truffled popcorn,,the truffled deviled eggs, and most of all, the croque Monsieur They make this with lobster and serve it with a cup of incredible soup! This place will be a hang out spot for us as we continue to,visit San Francisco

Great spot- pricey!
Dec 2015
We came in here on a Friday night before Christmas. It is a really cute, cozy spot. The drink list was nice- I told the waitress I prefer vodka drinks and she made a recommendation based on our preferences. We had a larger group (8ppl) and we sat at a large group table. We ordered a couple of appetizers--- I'm still dreaming of the truffle deviled eggs. I would go back just to eat those again.

Chef Michael did an amazing job in a very limited space with a hot plate, microwave & very small oven. You must get the truffle popcorn!
