Neighbourhood: Mission District
From burritos to bicyclists, the Mission is the foundation for all things hip in the city. Cultural attractions, an independent arts community, sumptuous street murals and a high density of bars and cafes make this neighbourhood a magnet for young people. While terrific inexpensive food is abundant, its top-of-the-line restaurants now compete with the city’s best for fashionable diners. Indulge as the locals do by heading to Mission Dolores Park, buy some ice cream, and savor one of the most diverse neighbourhoods in the country.

Fun Dining and Seeing Movies at Alamo Drafthouse Cinema
Feb 2020
We had a great time at Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, which is in the Mission District. We watched the movie We then enjoyed dining at the cafe. Service was good. This is a fun thing to do in the Mission District.

Theatre conversion to cinema restaurant
Dec 2019
We went to see the new Star Wars movie. Our seats were row 2 which I felt was a little too close to the screen. Looking up to watch the film. We had eaten before coming so just ordered drinks and pop corn from our seats. Staff were attentive throughout the film collecting orders and serving food and drink during the film.

Very disappointed.

The ambiance and full service was cool but I must admit the staff and service was a one star at best. The staff was RUDE and they forgot items and then were very snippy when we tried to get them. They made our movie experience one we’d like to forget.

Great Place to See a Movie!
Mar 2019 • Couples
As a frequent visitor of the Alamo Drafthouse SF I have to say it is hands down my favorite place to see a movie. From selecting your seats ahead of time to the atmosphere the entire experience is fantastic.

The projection and sound equipment is top notch and the seats are extremely comfortable...don't arrive sleepy as you may not stay awake.

The food and beverage service at the seats is very good as the staff seem to really have the process down. The food is quite good and the beverage list has a good variety...everything from soft drinks to whiskey with everything in between. I especially enjoy arriving hungry just so I can utilize their service.

The theater management has very specific rules on cell phones, noise, late arrivals and so on. In my experience though it seems these rules very rarely need to be enforced as the crowds seem to be people who enjoy movies and are making a special trip to see it at the Alamo. They often show old, rare prints in 70mm, cult, fan favorites, or independant films right along side first run blockbusters.

Its just a couple blocks from 24st BART and there is a parking garage just around corner on 21st between Bartlett and Valencia so give them a visit!

Tourists and Locals Alike Should Consider This Fun Venue
Dec 2018 • Couples
We loved Alamo. It's a chain so they have the model down. You buy your ticket in advance and pick your seat. The ticket price for the movie was close to what you pay for a regular movie. You can order food and drinks from your seat. The food reflects the theme of your movie. We found the drinks to be reasonable and all the food was tasty. The pretzel was really good. The chicken sandwich and burger also good. Popcorn also looked popular. And I ordered a boozy milkshake that was great. Overall, it was a fun way to take in a film and we will return. Note that the neighborhood is a little rough so Uber in and out is a good play.

Great Place to See a Movie and Have a Meal
Oct 2018 • Family
Great idea to combine good food, drinks and a movie. Movie choices are generally interesting and there is plenty of room to get comfortable. I find the service to be very slow, and the last few times we went they ran out of items from the menu. The food has always been really good, though. Their strict policies on talking or being late I could do without and the threatening tone they use to communicate the policy is unnecessary. That said, I really like the vibe of the place and we generally check Alamo first when we are in the mood for a movie.

Cool place, we loved the interior and the atmosphere. Unfortunately we arrived only just in time for the movie after having dinner out, so we did not try their servings. Avoid first row it is just too close to the screen.

BEST Place to see a movie in San Francisco
May 2018 • Couples
The BEST place to see a movie in San Francisco. The Alamo Drafthouse / New Mission Theatre on Mission Street in SF. Instead of a steady stream of ads for junk food and sugar water, films are preceded by quirky shorts that relate in some way to the feature. Every seat (and you can reserve seats in advance online) shares a table for two where you order food and/or drink by placing your order on a provided card in a slot on the table that staff can see. Seat rows are far enough apart that staff can come to your seats / table without disturbing others. They double-check your written order and bring back fresh dishes like burgers, sandwiches, drinks and such - including fresh popped popcorn in a big stainless steel bowl or fresh made cookies. This is the best movie-going experience ever. Totally recommend to everyone. There are special screenings on occasion with folks involved with the films participating in live panels. There's also a full bar in the lobby with lounge. And in the outer lobby you can rent or buy videos to watch at home. Plus you can join their membership plan for extra perks and get a free film coupon on your birthday. And, no, I have no involvement with the theatre and don't even know anyone involved - just think this place is the best.
