Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

this somber place is at the base of Suicide Cliff. visit to commemorate all the Allied forces, Japanese forces and civilians who died on Saipan. standing where the Japanese defenders fought to the death - and when out of ammunition, threw themselves off the cliffs at Banzai Cliff - was moving and evocative of the terrible waste of war. there are a series of memorials. some attended by japanese high schoolers who visited this place , as a peace park.

If you love World War II history, and want to know more about the final stages of the Battle of Saipan between US And Imperial Japanese forces, then a trip to the Last Command Post is a must see. There is an opportunity to see World War II-era guns and ordinance, see the cave which served as the last Japanese command post on Saipan, and to view the many memorials to those who died in the Battle, as well as those hoping for a peaceful future for the island. A great experience, as well as humbling. Enjoy!

The park is midway between Banzai Cliff and Suicide Cliff, where civilians terrified of the oncoming US soldiers. The post itself is in a natural cave; you have to climb multiple steps and enter through a low arched doorway cut into the cliff face. With little imagination, you sense the desperation of those final hours as the officers tried to direct the defense from this outpost and then gave the final order that committed so many to take their own lives. Many of those who committed suicide were not Japanese but rather Korean and Okinawan families who had lived on Saipan for 20 years; there are separate memorials contributed by those communities. There is a map showing the Japanese plan of defense and a quote from a Chamorro survivor who chose not to commit suicide when he saw one of the invading Americans wearing a rosary. Definitely a different view of the War in the Pacific...oh, yes, its also a beautiful drive.

Saipan ranks as one the best places to visit for people who read about WW2 history in the pacific. From bunkers on Beach road and the WW2 museum in Garapan. Personally i like suicide and banzai cliff. Tragic history but great views. The last command post has several artifacts including a tank, and various calibre of artillery, AAA, etc. Many bunkers still exist at the airport also.

We walked through this park and enjoyed the scenery. There are a lot of war relics about and quite a few memorials to peace and the people who lost their lives on the island.

Quite a place to visit as it is full with history. But they could really put in some more effort to clean the place as it started to look really run down!

Great rest stop on northern Saipan central to the Grotto, Suicide and Bansai cliffs, the war memorials, and Bird Island lookout. Plan to relax and view the WWII relics left from the Battle of Saipan or hop on the bike in a great place to ride.

The last command post of the Japanese, suicide cliff and the memorials and scattered guns and tanks with the signs of war was immensely moving. My father fought here. Here are the Japanese, Korean and Okinawan memorials to the civilians who chose suicide over surrendering to the Americans, surrounded by the beautiful flame trees. It is hard to believe such a lush tropical island was the scene of such a vicious war. Well worth the trip from United States to see.

One cannot ignore the role that Saipan played in WWII as a major battlefield between the US and Japan. There are tanks and guns found throughout the island but the Last Command Post is an important visit for a few minutes. There is a cave and memorials nearby.

This is where the American army fought with the Japanese until the Japanese surrendered to the American toop. This is the last command post of the American troop in this island. The old canons and guns and other war equipment are in good condition laying on the battle ground.
