The Needles District of Canyonlands is more isolated than the rest of Moab's National Park experiences, but worth setting aside a full day. We hiked the Cheslar District which I'd count as moderate to strenuous. There is a scenic drive in this part of Canyonlands....More

We have been to Moab several times, and had not visited this particular part of Canyonlands. On this visit we were looking for something we hadn't seen before. I must say, both of us agreed that we need to go back, it's gorgeous! As many...More

You have to go south 60 or so miles to get to this southern section of Canyonlands. For me the best part is the drive in which passes about 5 or 6 box canyons on your right. In the early morning sun, the long shadows,...More

This is the road less traveled. Once you get off Rout 191 you still have many miles before you get into the southern section of Canyonlands National Park. However, the drive is interesting and there are several stops along the way where you can hike.

The best part and the most scenic road into the Needles District ends at Indian Creek Canyon. On the way stop at Newspaper Rock which is just a few yards from the car park. Make a loop road by returning via Harts Draw Road. If...More

We loved the variety of scenery on our drive from Moab. Cows were crossing the road and were quite photogenic. But once you get to view the Needles, you are blown away by the beauty.

If you're into backcountry camping/trekking, this is your place. For the rest of us, the drive to the Needles District of Canyonlands is scenic, and there are some short hikes you can do. Unfortunately the weather was uncooperative, so we had to cancel our hiking...More

I wouldn't recommend this drive unless you're going for the hiking in the Needles. The drive is quite scenic, and you get to see Newspaper Rock, but its a ways from Moab.

We came up from Cortez, Colorado and this was our drive in to the first part of Canyonlands. The drive through the valley to the park entrance was gorgeous, as my husband was driving I got to enjoy all of it (I drove it on...More

Very lovely area, but there are no amenities. Be sure to take water, have enough gas and wear good shoes.

PS if you do the drive to Canyonlands Needle --- make sure your gas tank is full! And bring water/snacks.
