The fort lies about a quarter mile from the parking lot. If we had time, we would have called the park shuttle. It has been rebuilt to the mid 1800's condition. One can envision the fur trappers gathering there.

As others have mentioned, you have to park out a ways and walk in...so it is NOT handicap accessible. There is a shuttle that will drive you up to the front doors of the fort, but once inside it's not wheelchair or mobility friendly anyway....More

1/4 mile hike from lot to the fort. Good exhibits, easy to see in less than two hours. A good place to appreciate the high plains

The fort is a little out of town but don't miss it. We visit lots of historic sites but this one was especially interesting. A nice walk out to it too.

We were the only visitors. It was very cool to take our time and see all of the sights. But because it was close to closing time there was only 1 costumed person left.

It is about 10 miles from La Junta to Bent's Old Fort. The roads are paved and well maintained.
