The Arboretum is filled with beautiful scenic flowers and plants. a great getaway from the busy city life of Asheville, but still very close to the city. Take in views of the mountains and explore the different sections of these amazing gardens.

My wife and I are Master Gardeners and members of the American Horticulture Society. Hence we stop at every garden where ever it is. The North Carolina Arboretum is really a great place. WE are from Florida so plants and how they are grown are different here and other places out of our Zone. The Arboretum is no different, plants... More

My husband and I came to see the Winter Lights display on a Saturday night. We decided to let someone else do the driving and parking, so we purchased tickets from the Trolley Company and got picked up at the Visitors Center in Hendersonville. We were surprised that there were only 7 of us for the ride, but it worked... More

The NC Arboretum is a wonderful place any season! The Quilt Garden is a jewel of flowers representing NC's heritage. The bonsai garden is one of the best I've seen and is beautifully situated in a zen garden. There is also a train exhibit and special exhibits, a cafe and gift shop, and multiple trails. The Winter Lights displays thousands... More

Visiting the NC Arboretum for their Winter Lights evenings is a good winter outing for adults and children. The light displays are lovely, and the short walking distances to see them (between the two main buildings), makes the stroll preferable to the drive through light displays (at other venues), as long as the weather is compatible! There are interactive shows... More

We visited during the day to take our dog for a walk and just to get outside. We also purchased tickets for the Winter Lights and came back that evening. Well worth the trip. Just make sure you purchase tickets in advance for Winter Lights. Fun family event.

I was most impressed with the staff- from the guard at the entry to the manager in the visitors center. They were all extremely helpful and friendly. I didn't think the lights themselves flowed well and several times there were so many people grouped together that it lost some of the appeal. My favorite part was the paper cones section... More

I traveled in a group of 5, using The Trolley Company to get to the Arboretum. The variety of light displays was beautiful. It took about an hour to wander through the different exhibits and have a cup of hot chocolate.

If you are looking for serenity this is a must place to visit. It is acres upon acres of forest with well maintained hiking trails of various difficulties. There are family self-guided tours especially designed for kids. There are also many gardens and an outdoor toy-size train display to visit at the main property. Bring a book and find a... More
